Premier League giants Manchester United and Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Argentine left-back Julio Soler. He is a Lanus Academy graduate, who joined the club at nine and made his professional debut in 2022.
Soler is one of the mainstays in the Lanus backline, having played 43 games across competitions this season. In the Primera Division, he has been instrumental in maintaining 12 clean sheets out of 19 appearances this season. The 19-year-old defender has already earned a call-up from the World Champions but is yet to make his debut for La Albiceleste.
According to a report by Soy del Millo (h/t The Faithful MUFC), Manchester United are willing to pay £13 million to sign Julio Soler, who is also wanted by Liverpool and River Plate.
At Old Trafford, Ruben Amorim has a dearth of left-backs with both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia being out of form this season. In the 2023-24 season, Luke Shaw started only 12 Premier League games and spent most of his time sidelined due to injuries. This season, the 29-year-old Englishman has made only three starts so far for Manchester United.
Tyrell Malacia, meanwhile, was on the treatment table for the entirety of the 2023-24 season and has made just two Premier League appearances this season so far.
Compared to the Red Devils, Liverpool have proper reinforcements in the left-back position in Andrew Robertson and Konstantinos Tsimikas. However, Arne Slot would prefer a third option to strengthen the position even further.
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher assigns the worst grade to Manchester United as he rates every club in mid-season report
