Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes is pleased with the club's pursuit of Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim as a replacement for Erik ten Hag, as per reports. The Portuguese tactician has emerged as the leading candidate to take over the manager's role at Old Trafford on a permanent basis.

Regarded as one of the most highly rated young managers in European football, 39-year-old Amorim has been approached by the Red Devils to become their manager. The club is looking to act swiftly and hire a new manager, having relieved Erik ten Hag of his duties less than 24 hours before. They have named Ruud Van Nistelrooy in interim capacity.

Bruno Fernandes was one of the players to publicly send a message following the sacking of ten Hag, but the midfielder is pleased with the club's choice of a replacement. According to CaughtOffside, the 30-year-old is a huge fan of Amorim due to the manager's good work with Sporting Lisbon over the last four years.

Fernandes has struggled to hit the right notes this season, with no goals and only two assists in the Premier League so far.

At his best, Bruno Fernandes is one of the world's best attacking midfielders, but his qualities were lost in the final months of ten Hag's reign. The midfielder, as well as the club, will hope that he can find his best form under the new manager once more.

Who is Manchester United target Ruben Amorim?

Manchester United have been strongly linked with Portuguese tactician Ruben Amorim as a replacement for Erik ten Hag, who was sacked after a dismal start to the 2024-25 season. The club is reportedly willing to pay the €10 million release clause in the Amorim's contract in order to get him at Old Trafford.

Amorim had his big managerial break in 2019 while in charge of Braga, where he won the Taca de Portugal only at the age of 34. By March of 2020, Sporting Lisbon paid a whooping €10 million to land him at Estádio José Alvalade, making him the third most expensive manager in world football at the time.

His arrival in Lisbon meant he missed out on crossing paths with Bruno Fernandes, who moved to Manchester United in January that year.

Ruben Amorim quickly announced himself to European football by leading his new side to a league and cup double in his first season, ending the club's 19-year wait for a league title. He also led the club to win the Primeira Liga once more in the 2023-24 season.
