Manchester United have added Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee to their roster this summer. Manager Erik ten Hag, though, remains in the market for further reinforcements before the end of the transfer window.
Meanwhile, the Red Devils have ended their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte. Elsewhere, the Premier League giants are not in talks to sign Barcelona midfielder Frenkie De Jong.
On that note, here's a look at the key Manchester United transfer stories as on July 6, 2024:
Manchester United end Manuel Ugarte chase, says David Ornstein
Manchester United have pulled the plug on a possible move for Manuel Ugarte this summer, according to reputed journalist David Ornstein. The Premier League giants are looking for midfield reinforcements this summer, with multiple players linked with exits.
Casemiro's future remains up in the air, while Scott McTominay's time at Old Trafford could also be coming to an end. Recent reports have suggested that Ten Hag has identified Ugarte as a possible option to strengthen his midfield.
The Uruguayan midfielder is willing to join the club, and the Red Devils have been locked in talks with PSG to facilitate a deal. However, the Ligue 1 champions apparently want £51 million for the 23-year-old and are refusing to budge from their demands.
Manchester United believe the price is too steep and are reluctant to match the Parisians' valuation. Talks have stalled as a result, and the Red Devils have now decided to end their pursuit of the Uruguayan.
Red Devils not in talks for Frenkie de Jong, says Fabrizio Romano
Manchester United are not in talks to sign Frenkie de Jong this summer, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano. The Dutch midfielder is a long-term target for the Red Devils and remains linked with a move this summer as well.
Ten Hag previously attempted a reunion with his former player at Old Trafford but to no avail. Recent reports have suggested that Barcelona are willing to let the player leave the Camp Nou this year.
However, speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Romano said that the finances of the deal make it next to impossible this summer.
“It doesn't mean that Man United are going to do that also, because it's very expensive in terms of transfer fee, and very expensive also in terms of salary.
"De Jong is on a very big salary at Barcelona, and for Man United, in the new era, that could be an issue. So at the moment, I'm not aware of anything concrete on this one,” said Romano.
De Jong is under contract with the Blaugrana till 2026.
Manchester United likely to return for Bundesliga duo, says Fabrizio Romano
Manchester United are likely to return with an improved offer for Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano. The acclaimed journalist had previously said that both players are eager to team up with their former manager at Old Trafford this year.
The Red Devils remain keen to upgrade their backline and see the Bayern Munich duo as key additions to their squad. However, they have struggled to strike a deal with the Bundesliga giants.
On his YouTube channel, Romano added that the Premier League giants are likely to try again in the coming days.
"It's very clear now Man United are prepared to try again. They told the players via their agent, the same agent, Rafaela Pimenta, that they are prepared to attack again. They are prepared to try again.
"It's crucial for Wan-Bissaka to leave in order to bring in Noussair Mazraoui in the next few days, and they need more movement in terms of outgoings, but Man United will be back," said Romano.
He continued:
"This was the message sent to both players. This was the message sent to the agent and Bayern are also aware of Manchester United being prepared to try again for these two players. So expect movements in the next days for Manchester United on these two cases."
Wan-Bissaka is reportedly in talks to move to West Ham United this summer.
