Manchester United are preparing for their upcoming Premier League game against Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex on Sunday, May 19. Erik ten Hag's team arrive at the game in good spirits following their 3-2 win over Newcastle United in midweek.
Meanwhile, the Red Devils are not in talks to sign Michael Olise this summer. Elsewhere, the English giants are interested in talking Leny Yoro to Old Trafford at the end of this season.
On that note, let's look at the major Manchester United transfer stories from May 17, 2024.
Manchester United not in Michael Olise talks, says David Ornstein
Manchester United are not engaged in talks with Crystal Palace regarding a move for Michael Olise this summer, according to acclaimed journalist David Ornstein.
The French forward has turned heads at multiple clubs in the league following his impressive run with the Eagles so far. Recent reports have heavily linked Olise with a move to Old Trafford this summer.
However, speaking recently as cited by Caught Offside, Ornstein insisted that there's no guarantee that the 22-year-old will leave Selhurst Park this year.
“There’s plenty of interest in Olise – from Manchester United, for example – and therefore it is possible a move could happen. The ban his agent has been handed starts in October, so that will not be a prohibiting factor. But there have been no concrete talks or developments between suitors and Crystal Palace so far and it is not guaranteed he will go, as we saw last summer with Chelsea," said Ornstein.
“Olise is said to be the type of person to think these decisions through very carefully and will not depart unless it is right for both him and Palace. It has been well documented there is a release clause, which it is believed could facilitate his exit for a fee in the region of £60m, however from everything we hear it is a complicated mechanism and not as straight forward as: pay the fee and get him,” he added.
Olise has scored 10 goals and set up five more from 18 outings across competitions.
Red Devils eyeing Leny Yoro
Manchester United have set their sights on Lenny Yoro, according to GIVEMESPORT.
The Red Devils are all set to bid adieu to Raphael Varane at the end of this season. The 31-year-old will leave Old Trafford as a free agent and the club have identified Yoro as his ideal replacement.
The 18-year-old has been a revelation for Lille this season, registering 43 outings in all competitions, all but four of which have been starts. His efforts have already earned him admirers at Real Madrid, who are looking for a new defender this summer.
The Premier League giants have now entered the fray. The French defender's contract with the Ligue 1 club expires in just over a year and he is likely to be on the move come summer.
Yoro has a £52m release clause in his contract, which Los Blancos are reluctant to exercise. That could work to Manchester United's advantage.
Erik ten Hag's future hangs in the balance, says David Ornstein
Erik ten Hag's future at Manchester United is hanging in the balance, according to David Ornstein.
The Dutch manager has taken his team to the FA Cup final, where they face Manchester City later this month. However, the Red Devils are languishing in eighth in the league and have struggled to impress this season.
Speaking on the Back Pages podcast, Ornstein stated that INEOS could consider their options at the end of this season.
"He hasn't, to coin the weird phrase, lost the dressing room, it would seem. I'm sure there are there are some unhappy players at every club and Man Utd will be no different. But that was a good performance and he seemed to stir the crowd up heading towards the cup final. I actually thought that was a really good speech on the pitch. He was impassioned, and it seemed to go down relatively well," said Ornstein.
"But let's not get away from the fact that his future is in the balance. The INEOS hierarchy will be weighing up what to do now. They'll be looking at him on the one hand, and also looking at potential replacements as they have to do if a change is going to be made," he added.
The Premier League giants have suffered this season due to multiple injuries to key players.
