Manchester United are tenth in the Premier League after eight games. The Red Devils have won four and lost four times in the league so far.
Meanwhile, West Ham United have retained their interest in United defender Harry Maguire. Elsewhere, Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag feels let down by attacker Jadon Sancho.
On that note, here's a look at the key Manchester United transfer stories as on October 13, 2023.
West Ham United retain interest in Manchester United's Harry Maguire
West Ham United have retained their interest in Harry Maguire, according to TeamTalk.
The English defender was wanted at the London Stadium this summer, and Manchester United had reportedly accepted a £30 million offer for the player. However, the move failed to materialise due to various reasons.
Maguire's situation at Old Trafford hasn't improved much, and he remains behind Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez and Victor Lindelof in the pecking order. The Hammers are attentive to the situation and are planning to prise him away in 2024.
The 31-year-old has managed just four appearances across competitions for the Red Devils this season, starting twice. He could be willing to leave in search of regular football in 2024.
Erik ten Hag disappointed in Jadon Sancho
Erik ten Hag feels let down by Jadon Sancho, according to journalist Dharmesh Sheth.
The English forward remains banished from Manchester United's first team following a rift with the Dutch manager. The Red Devils are contemplating letting the 23-year-old leave unless he apologises to Ten Hag.
Sheth told Give Me Sport that the Dutch manager will be disappointed in the player after backing him for so long.
"It's such a difficult situation that Ten Hag finds himself in, because you've got a player there who everybody knows is so talented, but also you've got a player there that ten Hag has been patient with.
"And you know, he gave him some time off. He said you've got to train separately in Holland. I know people there that can help you," said Sheth.
He continued:
"There was talk of a few mental issues as well with Sancho, who was very patient with everything. And then what's happened so far this season, Ten Hag, I think he himself feels a little bit let down."
Sheth also added that Ten Hag was in his rights regarding the comments that started the entire episode.
"And yes, you can argue, should he have said what he said in that news conference post the Arsenal defeat at the Emirates? Well, he was asked the question. Ten Hag always seems to answer a question that he's asked.
"So he was directly asked a question. Why was Sancho not there? We expect certain standards in training, and he hasn't fulfilled those standards, (he said)" said Sheth.
Sancho could return to Borussia Dortmund.
Erik ten Hag planning talks with Casemiro
Erik ten Hag is likely to hold talks with Casemiro amid the player's poor run of form, according to transfer insider Ben Jacobs.
The Brazilian hasn't been his usual influential self this season, and Manchester United have struggled to control games as a result. With Sofyan Amrabat in the squad, Casemiro could drop down the pecking order unless he improves.
Jacobs told Give Me Sport that the Brazilian is unlikely to alter his style of play with the Red Devils.
"He is very well-liked at the club. But if you ask him to fulfil a new role, change something or train a different way, there will still be some pushback.
"That's not because there is necessarily tension or friction, but just because that's how established, elite-level players work," said Jacobs.
He continued:
"They've had success all their lives while often doing things one way, and Casemiro spent so long at Real Madrid that he is probably not going to dramatically change that."
Jacobs added that Scott McTominay could replace Casemiro in the starting XI against Sheffield United next weekend.
"I think what Ten Hag will do, as I understand it, is hold some one-on-one talks with Casemiro to understand what's happening this season and find a solution.
"That solution, after the international break, may involve a few more minutes for Scott McTominay," said Jacobs.
McTominay came off the bench to score a brace in Manchester United's last-gasp 2-1 league win at home over Brentford before the international break.
