Leicester City manager Ruud van Nistelrooy has shared his thoughts on Liverpool's chances of winning the Premier League title this season. This comes after his side lost 3-1 against the Foxes at Anfield on Boxing Day.
The Reds continued their exceptional form under Arne Slot this season. They sit atop the league table, seven points above second-placed Chelsea with a game in hand. They have lost just one game across competitions this season and continued that run against Leicester on Thursday.
After the game, Manchester United legend Ruud van Nistelrooy assessed his side's performance and Liverpool's title chances.
"You never know in the Premier League and many things have happened before," Van Nistelrooy said on Amazon Prime (via Liverpool.com). "But looking at this team and how stable they are and the depth of their squad they have a great chance.
"It is up to us to keep developing and creating gameplans for every opponent," he added. "The game plan was there, the players knew what to do and acted to it, but today was the maximum possible. Anfield is not the place where we usually collect the points, but for our development we have to do it as the points need to be collected."
Leicester City sit 18th in the Premier League table in the relegation zone, a point behind 17th-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Liverpool handed boost in PL title race as Chelsea lose against Fulham
Liverpool extended their unbeaten run to 22 games across competitions after a 3-1 win over Leicester City at Anfield on Thursday. Jordan Ayew gave the visitors a surprise lead in the sixth minute before Cody Gakpo restored parity in the first minute of first-half stoppage time. Curtis Jones gave the Reds the lead in the 49th minute before Mohamed Salah secured the win in the 82nd minute.
They extended their lead at the top of the table to seven points above Chelsea, who lost against Fulham at Stamford Bridge on Boxing Day. Cole Palmer scored an excellent goal in the 16th minute to give the hosts the lead. Harry Wilson equalized for the Cottagers in the 82nd minute before Rodrigo Muniz scored the winner for Fulham in the fifth minute of stoppage time.
Arsenal can move into second place and reduce the gap to the top of the table to six points if they beat Ipswich Town at home on Friday, December 27. Liverpool, meanwhile, will next face West Ham United at the London Stadium on Sunday while Chelsea will face Ipswich away on Monday.
