Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has taken a dig at Premier League title rivals Manchester City while responding to a question regarding Mohamed Salah's future at the Reds.
Salah, who is in the final seven months of his Reds deal, has recently popped up as the talk of the town. He claimed that Sunday's 2-0 league win over City was his final match against Pep Guardiola's outfit in a Reds jersey last weekend.
After the end of Sunday's encounter, Salah told Sky Sports (h/t ESPN):
"Honestly it's in my head. Until now, this is the last City game I will play for Liverpool so I was just going to enjoy it. The atmosphere was incredible so I will enjoy every second here. Hopefully we just win the league and will see what will happen."
At a pre-match press conference, Slot was asked whether Liverpool's last match was Salah's final game against the Cityzens as a Reds star. He jokingly replied (h/t Liverpool Echo):
"Maybe Mo knows more about the 115 charges so expects them not to be there next season! The boring answer is always the same. This is not the place for me to talk about Mo's contract. It was a joke, I repeat it was a joke."
Manchester City, who have won six of the last seven league titles, are under investigation for their 115 alleged breaches of financial rules. They were handed the charges in February 2023 and have repeatedly denied all charges against them.
Arne Slot offers injury update on Liverpool star
Ahead of his team's league contest at Newcastle United on Wednesday (December 4), Arne Slot was asked to shed light on Alisson Becker's potential return from his hamstring injury. He replied (h/t Liverpool Echo):
"I think I was clear about our position in the goalkeepers a few weeks ago, but we are just waiting for the moment Alisson is completely fit because [Caoimhin] Kelleher is doing too well to put Alisson in goal if he is only 50%. He is getting there, it might take a few more days but he's getting closer and closer. He will be in goal before the end of December."
Alisson, who turned 32 earlier this October, has recorded five clean sheets and shipped three goals in eight overall appearances for his club this season.
Reds' second-choice goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, on the other hand, has kept six clean sheets and conceded seven goals in 11 total games this campaign. He notably saved a penalty from Kylian Mbappe in a high-profile UEFA Champions League clash against Real Madrid.
