Pep Guardiola has admitted that Kyle Walker is not getting the minutes he wants at Manchester City. He believes that Rico Lewis is better than Walker at the moment and has not ruled out a potential move for the Englishman to the Saudi Pro League.
Speaking to the media ahead of the FA Cup tie against Salford City, Guardiola stated that he does not know if Walker is eyeing a move to the Saudi Pro League. He added that the Englishman will get fewer minutes because of Josko Gvardiol and Rico Lewis. He said:
"Kyle Walker to Saudi? I don’t know about that. Maybe he's not playing the minutes like he played in the past. Rico Lewis is playing really well, and of course the central defenders and Josko. I decide for that."
Walker has had a tough time at Manchester City this season as he has struggled for form. The Cityzens have also been in poor touch and are outside the top four in the league.
Kyle Walker once stated that he wants to stay at Manchester City for as long as possible
Last year, Kyle Walker spoke about his future at Manchester City and stated that he wanted to stay. He claimed that he was in a happy place and was not thinking of moving away from the Etihad. He said:
“I’ll go as long as I can go. This is a job that I love. I never wake up and think I don’t want to go in. I love playing football. It’s my happy place.”
When asked about a previous failed move to Bayern Munich, Walker admitted that it would have been a different experience. However, he added that he was happier at Etihad than he would have been at the Bundesliga club and said:
“It would have been a lot different because I’d have been at a different club but that was a moment in my personal life that I felt I wanted to move away from England and it was nothing to do with footballing reasons. But first and foremost I have to think about the football. It’s what I love doing and I felt that, come the end of it, I would be a lot happier at Manchester City than I would at Bayern Munich.”
Saudi Pro League clubs continue to keep tabs on the Manchester City captain and are expected to make a move in the summer.
