Fans mocked Lionel Messi on social media and saluted Cristiano Ronaldo after the legendary Portuguese striker scored his 450th goal after turning 30. In Al-Nassr's AFC Champions League match against Al-Gharafa at the Al Bayt Stadium today (November 25), he scored a brace to help them win 3-1.
His first goal came right after the half-time whistle (46') before a goal from Angelo Gabriel doubled their lead in the 58th minute. Ronaldo scored his second goal in the 64th minute before Joselu found a consolation goal for Al-Gharafa (75').
It was a record-breaking brace for the legendary Portuguese striker, as he scored his 912th career goal while clinching his 450th goal since the age of 30. The 39-year-old has the highest number of goals as a professional footballer.
Fans took to social media to comment on the record-breaking feat with comments like these:
"Most in history, most can only dream" one fan remarked.
"You can't stop him from putting the [ball] into [the net]" another fan exclaimed.
"Messi fans would wish goals weighed less than assists. Because CR7 cannot stop scoring" another fan mocked Messi.
"You have to score at least 50 goals each calendar year to beat this record. Absolute legend" this fan was delighted.
"Unbelievable! Ronaldo keeps defying age." another fan was stunned.
"Cristiano Ronaldo is the first living thing to score 913 goals, we are all lucky including Messi to be born in his era" a fan added.
"Messi will be happy he is part of this generation to witness the Magic of C-Ronaldo." another fan agreed.
The GOAT debate between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi rages on
The legendary duo have been two of the best players the world has ever seen. Over the last two decades, they have dominated football in near totality, winning a combined 13 Ballon d'Or awards. While Cristiano Ronaldo won five of those, his Argentine counterpart has racked up an unprecedented eight.
Both players have left Europe and continued their careers on separate continents. The Argentine playmaker currently plays for Inter Miami in the MLS. He has led them to win the Supporters Shield in 2024 and their first-ever trophy - the Leagues Cup in 2023.
Cristiano Ronaldo currently plays with Al-Nassr, where he has only won the Arab Club Champions Cup in 2023. He has struggled to win more trophies with the Knights of Najd, following Al-Hilal's ruthless domination in Saudi Arabia.
However, as can be seen above, fans still continue the rivalry between the two legends of the game. The comparison will perhaps go on long after even their retirement.
