The Crown Prosecution Service has reportedly received a "full file" from the Metropolitan Police on a Premier League player accused of raping three women and sexually assaulting a fourth. For legal reasons, the 31-year-old player has remained anonymous and will be referred to as Player X moving forward.

Player X was first arrested in Barnet on suspicion of rape in July 2022. While in custody, he was re-arrested after allegations of two more incidents of rape from April and June 2021 surfaced. Since then, Player X has been released on bail, which has been repeatedly extended.

In November 2024, he was reportedly called in for questioning again. The police, meanwhile, have confirmed that no further action will be taken against Player X over the June 2021 incident because of a technicality.

According to a report by The Guardian, a spokesperson from the Metropolitan Police confirmed that the full file of evidence has been passed on to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and they are conducting their investigation in tandem with the prosecutors.

“Met officers are investigating following a number of reports of alleged sexual offences between 2021 and 2023. A full file has been passed to the Crown Prosecution Service [CPS] and detectives continue to work with prosecutors. Those who have come forward to police continue to receive support from Met officers,” said the Spokesperson (h/t The Guardian).

In the meantime, the 31-year-old Premier League player has continued to play for his club despite the ongoing investigations. In a July 2022 report by The Guardian, it was reported that the Premier League side have been aware of the accusations against the player since the autumn of 2021.

Two Premier League players were arrested in connection with an alleged rape on April 19, 2024. However, the two players were released on bail soon after.

As per a report from The Sun, both players played for the same Premier League club. One player was arrested and spent the night at the police station, while the other was arrested the following day.

As per a police spokesperson, both players were subsequently released on bail.

“Officers have arrested two men following a report of a rape. A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and aiding and abetting a rape. A second 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape. Both men have since been released on police bail,” said the spokesperson (via BBC).

According to The Sun, the police arrived at the club's stadium to talk to one of the accused players. He was taken to a private room within the stadium where the police spoke to him. The player was formally arrested later that night.

The spokesperson also claimed that the club would not make any statements about the accusations as the matter had been taken over by the police.

Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers were quick to clarify that the two players didn't belong to their club. Taking to social media to dispel false narratives, the club released a statement which read:

"A newspaper article published yesterday [Tuesday] has triggered inappropriate online speculation over the identities of two individuals reportedly under police investigation. Whilst we would not typically comment on ongoing police matters, in order to protect the welfare of our young players, we feel it is necessary to confirm that the allegations do not relate to anyone at Wolves."
