Former Liverpool and Manchester United forward Michael Owen took a dig at Manchester City fans after they booed the side during their 1-1 draw against Everton. Pep Guardiola's Manchester City hosted Sean Dyche's Everton at the Etihad Stadium in a Premier League clash on Thursday, December 26.
Portuguese midfielder Bernardo Silva broke the deadlock in the 14th minute with the help of an assist from Jeremy Doku. Everton's Iliman Ndiaye later scored the equalizer (36') to make the scoreline 1-1. In the second half (51'), Vitalii Mykolenko conceded a penalty, which was eventually missed by Erling Haaland.
Pep Guardiola's side dominated the match on possession (66%) and they had five shots on target compared to three by the Toffees. However, Manchester City also missed four big chances compared to only one by Sean Dyche's Everton.
At the end of the match, the home fans started booing the Etihad outfit as the players walked into the tunnel. After the match, former English attacker, Micheal Owen took a dig at the supporters of the defending champions on X (formerly Twitter). He wrote:
"Wow! @ManCity fans booing their team off at the end. Years and years of incredible success witnessing some of the best football the world has ever seen. And when the team needs the most........"
The Cityzens are currently sixth in the Premier League table with 28 points in 18 matches. Additionally, City have won only one of their last 13 matches, which is a concern for the defending champions.
Manchester City receives positive news in the race to sign 27-year-old defender: Reports
Pep Guardiola's Manchester City have reportedly received a boost in their pursuit of signing French defender Theo Hernandez. As per TBR Football, the 27-year-old left-back is not interested in signing a contract extension with AC Milan in the upcoming summer.
Theo Hernandez joined the Rossoneri from Real Madrid in July 2019. Since joining the Serie A giants, Hernandez has become a crucial part of their line-up, bagging 31 goals and 41 assists in 232 appearances across all competitions.
However, his form is slowly declining and as a result, AC Milan are open to receiving offers for the 27-year-old.
His current contract with Rossoneri will expire in the summer of 2026. The club will look to sell Theo Hernandez next summer instead of letting him leave on a free transfer in 2026. Pep Guardiola's side doesn't have a natural left-back and the Frenchman's experience could reinforce the side in that position.
