“My GOAT”, “Shouldn’t go under the radar” - Fans admire performance from 31-year-old star in Germany win over Denmark at Euro 2024 Round of 16

Fans reacted as Germany registered an impressive 2-0 win over Denmark in Dortmund on Saturday (June 29) to reach the Euro 2024 quarterfinals. After a hard-fought goalless first half in inclement weather conditions before the Germans eventually sealed victory.

Despite the attacking prowess, fans were impressed by the performance of Antonio Rudiger in the German defence. The 31-year-old was solid at the backl and played a big role in restricting the incessant Danish attacks. Some of the fan reactions are as follows.

"Rudiger is an absolute mad man, I love him man," commented one X user.

"Rüdiger that was one of the best defensive performances I've seen in a long time, just wow," raved another user.

Other fans commented on the fortune of Real Madrid for being able to sign Rudiger for free. The German was signed by Los Blancos afte he left Chelsea in the summer of 2022.

"Rudiger is clearly not talked about enough," opined another fan.

"Rudiger is so good. Can’t believe I let Chelsea FC brainwash me into thinking he was awful," opined another fan.

"This Rudiger performance shouldn’t go under the radar," warned one fan.

Others highlighted the fact that Antonio Rudiger played the Euro 2024 Round of 16 game with a niggle. The German defender picked up a thigh injury in the dying minutes of the 1-1 draw with Switzerland in the group stage and was reported to be training separately.

"Rudiger was phenomenal today and I think he was playing while hurt. Beast!" commented one user.

"Toni Rudiger has had a tremendous game. Especially so given that he only trained once this week," tweeted another.

Finally, Rudiger got some 'GOAT' shouts from fans.

"Can’t believe Real Madrid bagged Rudiger for FREE. One of the deals of the century. This guy is top 3 CBs in the world and he isn’t 3 or 2," exclaimed one user on X.

Rudiger seemed to be at the end of every Danish attack, be it a through ball, cross or someone trying to hoodwink the defensive line with their footwork. He ended the game with an 8.4 rating from SofaScore and was never dribbled past throughout the game.

Germany's Euro 2024 round of 16 clash was halted because of a thunderstorm

Referee Michael Oliver was forced to take the players off the field in the 36th minute of Germany's match against Denmark because of incessant lightning and thunderstorms.

The players heard a loud thunderstrike near Signal Iduna Park, and the referee chose not to take any risk as he suspended the match for a while.

"Due to adverse weather conditions (thunderstorms and heavy rain) in Dortmund, it has been decided to suspend the UEFA EURO 2024 Round of 16 match between Germany and Denmark. UEFA will make an announcement on the resumption of the match in due course," read a statement from UEFA.

The game resumed after just 15 minutes. The players completed the final 10 minutes of the first half before heading down the tunnel for half-time.
