Fans on X have called out Darwin Nunez despite Liverpool's 1-0 win against Girona in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday (December 10). Nunez was inefficient on the night and missed two big chances during the game.
The first half ended goalless, despite several attempts from both teams to open the scoring. In the second half, Donny van de Beek fouled Luis Diaz, but the referee was unconvinced by Liverpool's appeals for a penalty. After a review by the video assistant referee, the Reds were awarded a penalty.
Mohamed Salah converted the spot-kick in the 63rd minute, giving the Reds the lead. Despite Girona’s attempts to level the scoreline, the game ended 1-0 in favor of the Premier League side.
In his 71 minutes on the pitch, Nunez had a passing accuracy of 50% (4/8). He lost possession five times and missed two big chances. Fans on X expressed their disappointment with the 25-year-old’s performance, with one tweeting:
"Nunez needs to be gone omd.”
"Get Darwin Nunez out of my club,” a fan added.
"Feel like I’ve aged about ten years since Liverpool signed Nunez. Supporting him is not good for your health,” another fan added.
"Fine margins cans wing leagues and Darwin Nunez requires the highest room for error of any CF gracing the Premier League. Anyone backing him is a pseudo intellectual determined to be proven right. He’s the same player he was 2 and a half years ago,” a fan opined.
"Losing faith in Darwin Nunez Quickly,” another fan wrote.
"At this point I’d actually rather Nunez didn’t get chances than constantly miss them,” wrote another.
Nunez has netted three goals and registered two assists in 19 games this season. Liverpool are ranked first in the UCL 2024-25 standings, having secured 18 points from six games.
Liverpool interested in signing Jeremie Frimpong next summer - Reports
Liverpool are exploring the option of signing Jeremie Frimpong next summer, according to Caught Offside. Frimpong is seen as a potential long-term replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold, who could leave Anfield as a free agent.
The Bayer Leverkusen right-back has proven to be a formidable defender recently, and his attacking contributions have been outstanding as well. This season, he has scored two goals and registered seven assists in 21 appearances for Leverkusen.
Frimpong's ability to feature at left-back and the right midfield position if the need arises could stand to be pivotal for the Reds. The Dutchman is contracted at Leverkusen till June 2028, and is valued at €50 million by Transfermarkt.
