Liverpool fans have criticized Dominik Szoboszlai on X after he failed to make an impact in their 2-1 Premier League win against Brighton & Hove Albion. The two sides locked horns at Anfield on Saturday, November 2, three days after the Reds defeated them 3-2 in the EFL Cup Round of 16.
Brighton dominated the first half, taking the lead in the 14th minute via Ferdi Kadioglu's curled effort. His shot bounced off the inside of the post into the back of the net. The Seagulls went close through Danny Welbeck and Georginio Rutter but were unable to convert their chances.
After a slow start to the early stages of the second half, Liverpool's mojo started to return. Bart Verbruggen made a pair of exceptional saves to deny Alexis Mac Allister and Mohamed Salah.
However, the Seagulls' resistance crumbled in the 69th minute when Cody Gakpo's accurate cross into the box skipped past everyone and into the net. Salah then unleashed an unstoppable rocket into the top-left corner three minutes later from a counter-attack to complete the comeback.
However, one Liverpool player who struggled was Szoboszlai. The Reds' No. 8 failed to register any goal contributions during his 66 minutes on the pitch. In addition, he created one chance, didn't land any shots on goal, and failed to make any tackles in midfield.
One fan reacted:
"I think Szoboszlai needs to be sold, come January. He's not doing anything for Liverpool this season"
Another fan typed:
"Szobo pretends to be footballer lately."
