Manchester United legend Roy Keane is worried that Marcus Rashford isn't enjoying himself at the moment. The English forward hasn't been in his element of late and his performances have been regularly questioned by fans and critics.
Ruben Amorim took charge at Old Trafford on November 11 as a permanent replacement for Erik ten Hag. Amorim has already had to deal with a controversy surrounding Rashford's visit to the US during the recent international break.
The 27-year-old has registered four goals and three assists from 18 games across competitions for Manchester United this season. Rashford had a time to forget in the 2023-24 campaign as well, managing just eight goals and five assists from 43 games.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Keane said that the Englishman appears to be playing under a lot of pressure.
“He never looks like he’s enjoying it that much. That’s the biggest worry for me. Listen, we can all be moody and when you’re playing the game obviously you’re under pressure. The attacking players, score goals, and getting assists. Even when he scores, everything’s a bit of a chore to him,” said Keane.
Rashford started Manchester United's 3-0 win over Leicester City in the Premier League before the international break. He played 57 minutes but failed to register a goal or an assist.
How many goals has Marcus Rashford scored for Manchester United so far?
Marcus Rashford rose through the ranks at Manchester United and broke into the first team under Louis van Gaal in the 2016-17 campaign. The Englishman scored in his debut for the Red Devils in the Europa League against Midtjylland in February 2016.
Rashford made his Premier League debut three days later, scoring a brace and setting up another in a 3-2 win over Arsenal. Since then, the player has developed in leaps and bounds, before registering his best season ever under Erik ten Hag.
The Englishman registered 30 goals and nine assists from 56 games across competitions in the 2022-23 campaign. His efforts earned him a new blockbuster contract with Manchester United that keeps him at the club until 2028.
However, he hasn't been the same player since signing the extension in the summer of 2023. Rashford now has 135 goals and 63 assists from 420 games across competitions for the Red Devils. No player in the current squad has appeared in more games for the Premier League giants than the Englishman.
