Cristiano Ronaldo's sister Elma Aveiro posted a reply on Instagram explaining her brother's tears after his penalty miss against Slovenia at Euro 2024 on July 1. The legendary striker was distraught after he missed a 105h minute penalty against the Eastern European nation.

Ronaldo had the chance to open the scoring against Slovenia in the closely fought Round of 16 clash. However, Jan Oblak denied the Real Madrid legend from the spot in what was a fantastic showing from the Atletico Madrid keeper.

The miss saw Ronaldo continue his run of four games without a goal at Euro 2024. His barren run is the longest he has had in an international tournament for Portugal.

After the match, Elma Aveiro, his sister, posted on Instagram:

"This scene was the moment he saw our lifelong mother on the giant screen. Do you know what it means? They don't know... No one will ever know...Not everything is football, fame and money... "

Portugal eventually won the game on penalties, as Diogo Costa saved all of Slovenia's three penalties. Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo will be keen to put the difficult match behind him and focus on the upcoming quarterfinal clash against France in Frankfurt on July 5.

The AL-Nassr star will be keen to get on the scoresheet soon. His next strike will see him break the record for the oldest goalscorer in the history of the Euros.

"I'm not emotional about that."
"I'm moved by everything that football entails, by the enthusiasm I have for the game, the enthusiasm I see in the fans, having my family here, people's passion."

The Portuguese star will hope he can end his European championship journey with glory at Euro 2024. While he hasn't scored any goal in the tournament yet, he is three games away from securing the trophy for the second time in the nation's history.
