Arne Slot has confirmed that English defender Joe Gomez will miss Liverpool's Premier League clash against Ruben Amorim's Manchester United on Sunday, January 5.
The Dutch tactician revealed that the whole squad would be available for the game against Manchester United as Conor Bradley and Ibrahima Konate have returned to team training. However, Joe Gomez will remain on the sidelines due to a hamstring injury he suffered during the Reds' 5-0 win against West Ham United on Sunday, December 29.
Jarell Quansah was subbed in at Gomez's place as Konate was also out of the squad due to an injury he suffered during the Reds' 2-0 triumph over Real Madrid in November.
Slot said in the pre-match press conference on Friday, January 3 (via Liverpool Echo):
"(Joe) Gomez is not in a good place, out for a few weeks, Conor (Bradley) and (Ibrahima) Konate will train with us for the first times, curious to see where they are up to but the next step is always how you handle team sessions."
Arne Slot added:
"Rest of the squad? Still have to come in but we trained yesterday and I assume everyone is fit. Not heard anything (to the contrary). Everyone apart from Gomez is set to be a part of the game."
In the first half of the season, Liverpool recorded a resounding 3-0 victory over United at Old Trafford, with Erik ten Hag as the Red Devils' head coach. The Reds are at the top of the league table with 45 points after 18 matches. Meanwhile, Manchester United are 14th in the Premier League with 22 points in 19 games.
Arsenal take lead over Liverpool in race to sign Bundesliga attacker: Reports
Mikel Arteta's Arsenal are currently leading the race to sign Eintracht Frankfurt's Omar Marmoush over Liverpool, as per GIVEMESPORT (via Caught Offside). The contracts of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah will expire at the end of the season and the Reds are more focused on their renewals.
Mohamed Salah has been in stellar form for the Merseyside club this season, bagging 20 goals and 17 assists in 26 appearances across all competitions. He's also the current top goalscorer of the 2024-25 Premier League with 17 goals. As a result, the Reds are focused on offering a contract extension to the Egyptian forward instead of new signings.
Taking benefit from the situation, the Gunners are getting close to securing a deal with Omar Marmoush. The 25-year-old has scored 18 goals and provided 12 assists across all competitions for Eintracht Frankfurt this season. The Bundesliga side can demand £50 million for Omar Marmoush.
