Liverpool manager Arne Slot shared his thoughts after his side's 3-0 win over rivals Manchester United in a pre-season friendly on Saturday, August 3. He explained that, while he was pleased with the result, the performance wasn't entirely convincing.
The Merseysiders continued their excellent form in the pre-season, beating the Red Devils 3-0 at the Williams-Brice Stadium in South Carolina. Fabio Carvalho opened the scoring in the 10th minute before Curts Jones added another in the 36th minute. Kostas Tsimikas then completed the scoring at the hour mark.
After the game, Arne Slot was asked if he was pleased with the win and he answered (via Liverpoolfc.com):
"Yes, I was – but not with all of them. We are very happy with the result, we scored some really nice goals. But I don't think we had enough control over the game because United were threatening us more than a few times. It's a 3-0 win but the score could have been different tonight as well."
The win over Manchester United brought an end to Liverpool's US pre-season tour for both sides. The Red Devils will now face Manchester City in the Community Shield at Wembley on August 10. Arne Slot's side, meanwhile, will host Sevilla in a friendly on August 11.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot reflects on their pre-season tour
The Reds were the only Premier League 'Big Six' team to have a perfect record in pre-season so far, albeit they've only played three games. They beat Real Betis 1-0 to start off their tour before beating Arsenal 2-1. They then comfortably got past Manchester United 3-0 on Saturday.
After the United win, Arne Slot shared his thoughts on the tour, saying (via Liverpoolfc.com):
"Very positive, I think. Of course the results, that's where everybody is looking at. But players stayed fit and they are able to perform in the way we want, so [a] high-intensity game. We saw some great goals during this tour, some great build-up situations and I see them working really, really hard not to concede.
"Like I said, today I think we gave away too many chances, United deserved more than a 3-0 loss. But it's also our quality that we do score our own chances."
Liverpool finished third in the Premier League last season under Jurgen Klopp, winning the Carabao Cup. Arne Slot will hope to start off his time at Anfield with trophies as well. They will face Ipswich Town away in their first league game on August 17.
