Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni has been blown away by Barcelona star Lamine Yamal, whose performances at Euro 2024 have been nothing short of remarkable. While Scaloni has led La Albiceleste to the final of Copa America, 17-year-old Yamal has been crucial in Spain's emergence in the final of the Euros.
The Barcelona starlet only just turned 17 a day before the final against England, which will take place at the Olympiastadion Berlin on July 14. Spain have won all their six matches in the tournament, and Yamal has impacted nearly every game, providing three assists and scoring a goal.
His goal was particularly spectacular for its timing and quality. In their semi-final outing against France, La Roja were behind as Kylian Mbappe and Randal Kolo Muani combined for the opening goal. Yamal took matters into his own hands, opening space for himself before curling a brilliant effort into the top corner from range.
His form throughout last season for his club was impressive, and he has managed to carry that form into the Euros. This led to praise from Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni, who spoke about him in a recent press conference (via Albiceleste Talk):
"Lamine Yamal is a spectacular emergence, and much credit goes to Xavi for giving him the opportunity to play at such a young age and wear the Barcelona jersey. And then to Luis for giving him the chance with the Spanish national team. It must be one of the most important breakthroughs in recent years."
"And I think the most important thing now is that from here on, they take care of him, that they stay close to him. From what we can see, he is a spectacular young man and is bringing great rewards to Spain."
Lamine Yamal will certainly be hoping he can win the Euros with La Roja on what would be his very first attempt. The winger will also be looking to take this form into the next campaign with Barcelona.
Barcelona shut down bids for Lamine Yamal: Reports
Reports have emerged that bids were submitted to Barcelona for Lamine Yamal by Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). According to SPORT (via Hard Tackle), the Parisian giants made a move for the youngster ahead of Euro 2024, after reeling from their loss of Kylian Mbappe.
Although the Blaugrana are currently tight with funds, they rejected the offer believed to be in the region of €250 million. With Mbappe's massive wages off their books, PSG are in the mood to make a mega-signing replacement.
However, this replacement will not come in the form of Yamal, who the Blaugrana have no intention of selling. His price will have even skyrocketed further following his performances at the ongoing Euros.
