Madame Tussauds have confirmed that Cristiano Ronaldo is the most kissed wax figure alongside English serial killer John Christie and that they have to regularly remove lipstick marks from it. Ronaldo’s popularity transcends beyond the sport, capturing the admiration of fans from all walks of life.
While Cristiano Ronaldo is regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time, his striking good looks naturally draw attention. Thus, it is somewhat unsurprising that the waxwork of the Portuguese icon receives the most kisses at Madame Tussauds. As per The Sun, Ronaldo’s waxwork requires daily cleaning to erase lipstick marks left by his admirers.
However, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner shares the top spot of the waxwork with the most kisses with the late notorious English serial killer John Christie. Christie’s dark history includes multiple murders during the 1940s and early 1950s, and his notoriety has been the subject of numerous books and films. Despite his grim legacy, his wax figure appears to have garnered peculiar attention from visitors.
The museum speculates that Christie’s appearance, specifically his bald head, may inspire guests to engage in playful or ironic interactions, seeking amusing photos rather than paying homage.
In a recent statement, Madame Tussauds addressed the surprising upkeep required for certain waxworks.
''The aim, when anything untoward is discovered, is to rectify it before visitors come in — and one regular job is to remove lipstick marks off Ronaldo. It’s not so surprising that he has a lot of admirers as he is very good-looking and a fantastic athlete. But it is harder to understand the amount of kisses John Christie gets. We’re not sure why — perhaps it’s his bald head that attracts people looking for fun photos,'' they told The Sun.
Apart from Cristiano Ronaldo and John Christie, the effigies of boxer Anthony Joshua and Wonka star Timothee Chalamet are popular for attracting pecks, while the eyelashes on the waxwork of pop band Little Mix are stolen by visitors.
''I look good because I am'' – When Cristiano Ronaldo answered question about being obsessed with looking good
Cristiano Ronaldo’s good looks and sense of fashion have long made him admired by a lot of people. In 2018, the Portuguese legend refuted claims that he is obsessed with fashion and said he dresses well because everyone around him likes to see him smartly dressed.
He said on his unveiling as DAZN’s Global Ambassador (via GOAL):
“Not really. I don’t believe I’m obsessed by looking good. I look good because I am," the 33-year-old said, laughing, before adding, "I’m joking! I think everything’s important to look good, to smell good. You know, it’s not just women."
“The ladies like to see you dressed well - my girlfriend likes it, my mum, my sisters, everyone around me likes seeing people smartly dressed. Men or women, it’s part of our culture. So it’s good. It’s not an obsession, but a detail here or a detail there makes the difference in my opinion," he added.
Cristiano Ronaldo, 39, currently plies his trade at Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr.
