Paul Scholes names 3 England changes he'd make vs Slovenia in Euro 2024 clash including Alexander-Arnold moving position

Paul Scholes wants Trent Alexander-Arnold moved to left-back in one of three chances he wants made when England face Slovenia in their final Euro 2024 group game. The Three Lions have made an underwhelming start to their campaign in Germany but are through to the knockout stages.

The Manchester United legend thinks Alexander-Arnold should play as left-back, with Kobbie Mainoo starting in midfield. Scholes also wants Cole Palmer to start, which likely means Bukayo Saka will drop to the bench. He posted on his Instagram story:

"Sunday am thoughts… TAA left-back, Kobbie Mainoo centre mid, Palmer on the right… would give reasons but too many touchy f***ers out there."

Alexander-Arnold has been used in a makeshift midfield role in England's games. He's struggled to impress in the role, particularly in a 1-1 draw against Denmark.

Southgate took Manchester United teenager Mainoo and Crystal Palace youngster Adam Wharton to Germany. There is a feeling they would be more worthy midfield partners for Declan Rice.

Alexander-Arnold would move to left-back, which means Kieran Trippier will lose his starting role. The Newcastle United full-back hasn't looked completely comfortable in the position at Euro 2024.

Palmer's lack of game time has surprised many, given he was the Premier League's Young Player of the Year. The Chelsea forward hasn't been given a single minute of action in Germany.

Scholes' idea of starting him on the right suggests Saka would pay the price and be benched. The Arsenal star has arguably performed better than England's other starting winger, Phil Foden, who has failed to shine.

England handed Kieran Trippier injury scare ahead of their Euro 2024 game with Slovenia

Alexander-Arnold might be forced to play at left-back against Slovenia regardless of Scholes' desire to see him do so. Trippier is nursing a calf injury ahead of the game on Tuesday (June 25).

The veteran defender could miss the game with England already through, but they are hoping to win Group C. They sit top of the group with four points from two games.

Ezri Konsa or Joe Gomez could replace Trippier at left-back if Southgate needs to make the change. The duo appeared in makeshift full-back roles during pre-Euro 2024 friendlies.

Southgate has a selection dilemma at left-back, as Luke Shaw was the only genuine left back he called up to his Euro 2024 squad. The United star is still dealing with an injury, and it remains to be seen if he'll be back in action in Germany.
