Paul Scholes believes Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola will be more concerned about Liverpool than Arsenal in the Premier League title race this season.
Arne Slot's side lead the league table by a point after an excellent start to the season. The Merseysiders have won seven of their first eight league fixtures, losing just once so far in their 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest last month.
The Reds are in pole position, with Manchester City in second place, while Arsenal trail four points behind the league leaders in third. The Gunners have dropped points in three fixtures this season, all of which saw them reduced to ten men.
Their draws against Brighton & Hove Albion and Manchester City saw Declan Rice and Leandro Trossard being sent off respectively. Last weekend, Arsenal were handed their first defeat of the season by Bournemouth, with William Saliba picking up their third red card of the season in the first half.
The Gunners certainly haven't had the start they would've desired in this season's title race, having finished a close second last season and the season before. Manchester City will, however, have to fend off competition from the Reds and the Gunners if they want to defend their title for a record fifth consecutive season.
But Scholes feels Guardiola perceives the Merseysiders as more of a threat than the Gunners. He said (via Metro):
"I think Liverpool’s squad is better than Arsenal’s. I think Guardiola will be more worried about Liverpool than he is Arsenal."
The Gunners will host the Merseysiders at the Emirates on Sunday (October 27).
Paul Scholes, Gary Neville, and Roy Keane's predictions for Arsenal vs Liverpool
Manchester United legends Paul Scholes, Gary Neville, and Roy Keane have offered their predictions for this weekend's Premier League showdown between Arsenal and Liverpool.
Speaking on the latest episode of Stick to Football, Keane predicted a 1-1 draw. He did back the Gunners to secure all three points though if Bukayo Saka returns to action. The England forward has been sidelined since the international break due to a hamstring injury.
He said (via One Football):
“Arsenal have got a goal in them. Robertson or Trent will give a goal up. If Saka’s fit, Arsenal will get a result. 1-1; everyone’s happy.”
Neville has backed the north Londoners to beat Liverpool 2-1, insisting that he would hate to see such a massive fixture end in a goalless draw. He said:
“This is the big one, the emotional one! I’m not having a 0-0. I don’t want it. I can’t watch a 0-0 on a Sunday. 1-1 or 2-2 is alright but I hate 0-0. I need a winner or goals… I’ll tell you what, I’ll go Arsenal 2-1.”
Scholes' prediction was brief as he picked the Merseysiders as his favorites.
"I fancy Liverpool," he said.
