Argentina President Javier Milei has termed Lionel Messi the greatest of all time (GOAT) in football. He recently heaped praise on the Inter Miami star, making his admiration of Messi known to all.
Speaking to Susana Gimenez, Milei opened up on the Argentina icon's footballing exploits. He stressed that even during Messi's off days, he backed the legendary footballer to come back stronger. He said (via @AlbicelesteTalk):
"I have a very strong preference for Messi. There are videos of me, and while here they were saying all sorts of things about him, I always maintained that he was the best player of all time. People can be good in one area, but not in everything. He's the best at everything. That's why Messi is impossible. There's no human being better at everything."
Milei had made a statement after Messi's house was vandalized earlier this year in Ibiza. He took to X to urge the Spanish government to take action and protect the Argentine citizens in the country. He wrote:
"In Spain, communists who want to "murder the rich and abolish the police to end climate change" vandalized a home of Lionel Messi and his family. I stand in solidarity with the Messi family for this cowardly and delusional event and I ask Pedro Sanchez's government to guarantee the safety of the Argentine citizens who live in the Kingdom of Spain. Communism is an ideology fostered by envy, hatred, and resentment towards the successful. It has no place in the free and civilized world."
Lionel Messi's house in Ibiza was vandalized by climate change activists. The €11 million property was covered with black and red paint and the message, "Help the Player. Eat the Rich," written on it.
Lionel Messi backed as the GOAT over Cristiano Ronaldo by Dimitar Berbatov
Manchester United great Dimitar Berbatov spoke about Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in a recent interview with ESPN FC. He stated that the Argentine was better than the Portuguese as the former had no weakness. He said:
“He’s the greatest. Ronaldo is brilliant, Messi is more my kind of player. He sees the game so clearly. He can score, create, he’s the complete player, the best ever probably.”
Berbatov played against Lionel Messi in the 2009 UEFA Champions League final. He and Cristiano Ronaldo ended up on the losing side with Manchester United.
