Josep Guardiola, Head Coach of Manchester City looks on during the UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD6 match between Juventus and Manchester City.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has outlined the injury concerns that his club is going through at the moment. According to Goal, the Spanish tactician has mentioned that he wants his players to come back from injury without too much of a hassle.

However, he has not ruled out making new signings in January.

"What I want is my players back, the players that we have I will love desperately to compete with the squad that we had at the beginning of the season. I said many times. This is the only regret that I have; I don't have the players. These players, not new ones. But in the certain moment, the right moment, we will see," said Guardiola at a press conference.

City are not going through a good run of form, and are currently placed in the fourth position of the EPL table with 27 points to their name. They take on their arch-nemesis Manchester United on Sunday, December 15, having just been beaten 0-2 by Juventus in the Champions League midweek.

"Maybe some wingers have to play as a full-back" - Pep Guardiola ahead of Manchester derby

Guardiola is troubled by the fact that he does not have more than three fit defenders for the clash against United. City only have Kyle Walker, Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias available for the high-octane match at home.

John Stones, Manuel Akanji, and Nathan Ake are injured, while Rico Lewis is suspended.

"I don't know what to do. Maybe some wingers have to play as a full-back, or Matheus (Nunes) maybe can play as a full-back, or maybe play with five-at-the-back with wing-backs as wingers. I don't know. But the soul and the spirit of this team is there," he added.

City have won just one out of their last five matches in the EPL, and this does not bode well for the Catalan, who signed an extension to stay at the Etihad earlier this year. Guardiola knows that his job will be under threat if Manchester City do not start churning out results as they have done previously in his tenure.
