Arsenal fan and journalist Piers Morgan made a rather salty claim about Manchester City's 115 alleged charges for financial irregularities after the latter claimed the Premier League title. The Cityzens held their nerve on the final day of the league season, beating West Ham United 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday (May 19).
Meanwhile, the Gunners managed to secure a 2-1 victory over Everton at the Emirates.
With both sides winning their contests, Pep Guardiola's team finished two points above the north Londoners and recorded their fourth straight English top-flight success.
However, Morgan claims that the Gunners could be handed a couple of those titles should the Cityzens be found guilty of these charges.
He wrote on his X account:
"But great side though City are, I wonder how many of their league titles Arsenal will end up being awarded if the 115 charges against them are ever actually processed."
Last season, Mikel Arteta and company lost out in the race for the Premier League to Manchester City after leading for 248 days. Should the Manchester outfit be hit by severe points deductions for the current and previous campaigns, Arsenal may well be crowned champions.
However, it remains to be seen as to what ruling the Premier League's independent panel will make with regard to these alleged offences.
Ex-Manchester City financial advisor sends warning as Arsenal await result on 115 charges
Former Manchester City financial advisor Stefan Borson has warned the Cityzens about the seriousness of the 115 charges placed against them for breach of financial rules.
Borson has even gone on to record to state that the club could be relegated should these charges be proven against the Manchester side.
Speaking to iNews, he said (via GOAL):
"If these charges are proven, it couldn't be any more serious. Could Man City be relegated? That seems even more obvious after the way sporting advantage was appraised and dealt with in relatively (Everton and Nottingham Forest) PSR cases."
"It feels as though there's nothing left to say until the case is heard. I understand people want it to be quicker but it's not possible and people are going over the same thing time and again," he added.
The Premier League CEO, Richard Masters, believes that a decision will be reached in the near future. For now, Guardiola's team will focus on the upcoming FA Cup final against Manchester United on Saturday (May 25).
