Manchester United fans on X have blasted Diogo Dalot for his poor performance in their 2-1 win against Manchester City. The two sides faced off in the Premier League at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, December 15.
The Red Devils were dealt an early blow after Mason Mount was forced off with an injury in the 14th minute. Josko Gvardiol then headed home from Kevin De Bruyne's deflected cross to hand City the lead 22 minutes later.
Manchester United rallied back following the break and got back into the game after Matheus Nunes brought down Amad Diallo in the 86th minute; conceding a penalty in the process. Bruno Fernandes made no mistake from the spot two minutes later. Diallo then scored a brilliant goal (90') to seal all three points for his side.
Dalot struggled to make an impact at left wing-back, creating zero chances, and landing no accurate crosses from two attempts. The 25-year-old also lost seven duels, made zero recoveries and tackles, and lost possession 10 times.
One Manchester United fan reacted to his performance by posting:
"Dalot has progressively gotten worse with every start under Amorim. That usually indicates fatigue which explains his brain dead decision making & declining physical ability but he's always been useless in the final third & regularly underplays his physical attributes OOP."
Another fan tweeted:
"Diego Dalot is currently Man United's worst player"
Other fans reacted below:
"Hes looked like AWB in Amorim’s structure, wasteful in final third, clueless in possession. Atleast AWB was better in own box," one fan commented
"He has never been good at anything, got player of the year last year as he was the only player who stayed available the whole season outside Onana who is also sh**e," another added
"I'm getting more and more annoyed with Dalot for each game. What does he actually do?" one fan questioned
"Dalot needs to be told he won't get paid this week if he even attempts a cross. Utterly shambolic in the final 3rd," another typed
"When he is like this he is unstoppable" - Bruno Fernandes hails Amad Diallo following Manchester United's 2-1 win over Man City
Manchester United skipper Bruno Fernandes waxed lyrical about Amad Diallo after the latter played an instrumental role in their 2-1 comeback win over Manchester City. Fernandes also challenged Diallo to maintain his current form every week.
Diallo won Manchester United their penalty before scoring the winner to help the Red Devils defeat Pep Guardiola's men. The 22-year-old completed 32 passes from an attempted 34 with an accuracy of 94 percent, landed two shots on target, and won seven duels.
Following the game, Fernandes told Sky Sports (via @UtdDistrict):
"When he is like this he is unstoppable. I just want him to keep working, that is what he has been doing. It is great what he did today but I am sure he can do this every week. We want this week in, week out. He is now getting his chances, deservedly."
Diallo has scored four goals and provided six assists in 23 appearances across competitions this season.
