Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have reportedly entered the race to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich, who is said to be keen on reuniting with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City. The German joined the Bavarians in 2015 and was a key player under Guardiola in his debut season with the club.
Kimmich's versatility, aggression and playmaking ability make him a great asset for any team. He's the sort of player Guardiola would like as he can play as a right-back and just as easily operate as a defensive midfielder. While his contract with Bayern Munich runs through 2025, the 29-year-old is keen on taking up a new challenge and feels English shores would be a great fit for him.
According to journalist Fabrice Hawkins, the German is slated to leave the Bavarian side for sure this summer with PSG also appearing as a possible destination.
Furthermore, Liverpool and Arsenal, considered Manchester City's fiercest rivals, are reportedly in the fray to bag his signature. The Reds bid farewell to Jordan Henderson and Fabinho in 2023 and former Bayern Munich star Thiago at the end of the 2024 season. This leaves a massive void in Liverpool's midfield, which a player like Kimmich could easily fill.
As for the Gunners, who seem closer to the Premier League title than Liverpool, are also on the lookout for midfield reinforcements. Thomas Partey has for sure seen better days and might be on his way out as his stint with the Gunners has been plagued with injuries.
Kimmich's addition alongside Declan Rice in midfield could pose a massive threat to other top-tier English clubs, including Manchester City.
With Bernardo Silva considered more of a winger and Ilkay Gundogan leaving the club following a treble-winning season in 2023, the 29-year-old's addition to City's midfield ties the team together.
Additionally, after having already played under Guardiola, it's unlikely that the German would want to shift to another team. This could also be his last chance to make a big-money move to a UEFA Champions League title-contending team.
Manchester City lifted their sixth Premier League title in the last seven years
The Cityzens continued their dominance in England after besting Arsenal to win their fourth consecutive Premier League, a feat that has never been achieved before. They beat West Ham United 3-1 on the final matchday of the season to claim the PL title.
Despite winning the title by a very slim margin, they won their sixth Premier League title in the last seven years. Guardiola's men were also poised to lift the Champions League title but lost 4-3 on penalties to Real Madrid in the quarter-final of the competition.
In addition, the Cityzens also lost the FA Cup final to cross-city rivals Manchester United. Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo scored for The Red Devils while Jeremy Doku scored the sole goal for Manchester City in the final.
