Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) are keen on bringing Frenkie de Jong into their fold from Barcelona, if reports from El Nacional are to be believed. The 27-year-old midfielder is believed to be rated at €57 million by his club. With his contract coming to an end in 2026, PSG could be in pole position to bag him.
De Jong is one of the highest-paid players in La Liga, and his demands for a contract extension have not been met by Barcelona yet. PSG, led by president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, hope to raid the Barcelona dressing room and lure de Jong to the Parc des Princes, as they did with Neymar and Lionel Messi.
De Jong, who is among the finest central midfielders in the world at the moment, will be keen on making a move to Paris if his wage demands are met. It looks highly unlikely that Barca will be keen on offering him a higher wage packet than he currently earns given his injury history.
He is currently ruled out with a knee injury as well. Under new Barcelona manager Hansi Flick, de Jong has started in just four matches in La Liga this season.
Frenkie de Jong arrived at Barcelona in 2019
Frenkie de Jong, along with Donny van de Beek and Matthijs de Ligt, is one of the finest products of the Ajax youth academy. He arrived at Barcelona in 2019 after having played for the Ajax senior team for three seasons.
His career at Camp Nou has been wrecked with injuries, although he has done reasonably well at other times. Overall, the Dutchman has made 220 appearances for La Blaugrana in his career, and scored 17 goals while providing 21 assists.
Barcelona will be sorry to see de Jong go in the summer, although they are placed in the first position of the La Liga standings at the moment with 33 points. Their closest challengers Real Madrid are a distant second with 27 points to their name.
