Former Real Madrid legend Marcelo has given a cheeky one-emoji reaction to Al-Nassr forward Cristiano Ronaldo's post on social media.
Ronaldo struck twice for Al-Nassr in the AFC Champions League on Tuesday (October 24). He helped his side overcome a gritty Al-Duhail 4-3 on Matchday 3 of the group stages.
In the 61st minute, with the scoreline 2-0 in favor of Al-Nassr, the Portuguese bagged his first with an audacious long-range strike from outside the box. Exactly 20 minutes later, he latched onto a lovely cross from Sultan Al-Ghanam from a tight angle to bring up his brace. He scored both goals from his left foot.
Ronaldo later shared pictures of himself from the game in a carousel on his Instagram account. His former Real Madrid teammate, Marcelo, shared one of the pictures that showed the Portuguese doing the 'Siuu' celebration on his Insta story. He accompanied the story with a cold-face emoji while tagging the player himself.
While the Al-Nassr forward hasn't publicly reacted to it, it showed that the two former Galacticos remain as close as before. This is despite playing apart from each other for five years now.
Ronaldo and Marcelo played together for nine years at Madrid until the former left for Juventus in 2018. The Brazilian himself left Real Madrid last year after lifting the 14th Champions League title. Following a poor spell at Olympiacos, he returned home to Brazil at Fluminense.
Throughout this period, the players have maintained contact, with the two often seen engaging in friendly banter on social media. When Marcelo announced his departure from Real Madrid last year, Ronaldo even put out a heartfelt tribute wherein he called the full-back a "brother".
Marcelo's latest reaction to the Al-Nassr captain's heroics showed their friendship has endured the test of time.
Ronaldo and Marcelo, a legendary Real Madrid partnership
For nine years, Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcelo forged a terrific attacking partnership that tore up several defenses. The Brazilian would often drive upfield to link up with the prolific forward or create space for him to run into.
The duo played 332 matches together at Real Madrid and had joint-goal participation on 33 occasions. Marcelo also provided 25 assists to Ronaldo, the fifth-most by a player in the latter's career, which once again highlights their stellar pairing.
Together, they guided Real Madrid to four Champions League trophies and two La Liga trophies among others.
