Real Madrid have been handed a massive boost in their pursuit of Alphonso Davies

Spanish giants Real Madrid have received a massive boost in their pursuit of Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies, according to Spanish radio network Cadena SER. Bayern have reportedly withdrawn the contract renewal offer they made to the Canadian, leaving him free to seek a move this summer.

The radio station has also reported that a meeting between Real and Bayern will be held soon to discuss the left-back's future. The meeting could be the culmination of Los Blancos' long-standing pursuit of Davies' services.

Davies moved to Munich from boyhood side Vancouver Whitecaps for €14 million in January 2019. At Bayern, he has established himself as one of the best full-backs in world football.

In 195 games for the Bavarians, Davies has racked up 11 goals and 31 assists. He even scored against his potential future employers at the Santiago Bernabeu in the second leg of their 2023-24 Champions League semi-final.

Davies was an integral part of Bayern's sextuple-winning season in 2019-20, helping his side win all six competitions that they took part in. Overall, he has won five Bundesliga titles, a Champions League, a Club World Cup, and two DFB Pokal titles with Bayern Munich.

Bayern are reportedly demanding a €50 million fee to part ways with Davies this summer; however, Real Madrid are only willing to pay up to €30 million. Davies' contact is set to expire in June 2025, which means the Bundesliga giants could lose him for free next summer.

Bayern Munich board vetoed director of sport's contract offer to Real Madrid target Alphonso Davies - Reports

According to The Athletic, Bayern Munich's Director of Sport Max Eberl recently offered a new and improved contract to Real Madrid target Alphonso Davies. However, Bayern's administrative board allegedly refused to approve the contract, in order to keep the club's financial structure intact.

Eberl had reportedly offered Davies a salary between €14-16 million with a substantial signing bonus, which was a massive improvement on the offer made in March 2024.

The Canadian's representatives supposedly agreed upon the terms of the extension as well, but the refusal of the board meant that the negotiations collapsed altogether.

Therefore, despite new manager Vincent Kompany's eagerness to keep Davies at the club, Bayern are willing to risk losing him on a free transfer next summer. However, they haven't counted out the possibility of keeping him at the club.

Real Madrid might have a verbal agreement with Davies over a potential transfer for a fee in 2024 or on a free in 2025.

Bayern Munich are believed to have identified AC Milan's Theo Hernandez as a potential replacement, and are likely to make a move for him if Davies departs for Real Madrid.
