Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema is one of the finest attackers of his generation. The Frenchman has enjoyed a trophy-laden career with Los Blancos and formed a fruitful partnership with Cristiano Ronaldo, before the latter sealed a surprise switch to Juventus in the summer of 2018.
Speaking to Diario AS, the Real Madrid attacker opened up on his partnership with Cristiano Ronaldo and admitted that he had to change his style of play to work in tandem with the Portuguese star.
“I had to adapt. Over the years I have changed my game, because Cristiano Ronaldo was there to score goals.”
“At Lyon, I was going to score goals all the time, but now I touch the ball a lot more first.
“Because of course, I had a boy next to me who scored like triple the amount of goals I scored, so I had to adapt.”
Cristiano Ronaldo helped me settle in at Real Madrid, reveals Benzema
Benzema also lavished praise on Cristiano Ronaldo, who is hailed as one of the greatest players in Real Madrid decorated history. The Frenchman, who is still leading the line for Los Blancos, revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo helped him settle in at Real Madrid as he spoke a bit of French.
"He spoke to me a lot, because he knew a little French. He told me to tell him whatever I needed, but it was difficult for me to open up."
Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo enjoyed a successful spell at Real Madrid, as they won a league title and a staggering four UEFA Champions League trophies together at the Santiago Bernabeu. In the summer of 2018, Cristiano Ronaldo left Real Madrid to join Juventus, as he expressed his desire to take a new challenge.
Since then, Benzema has been Real Madrid's talisman and has led the line to devastating effect. Last season, the Frenchman was at the top of his game, as he spearheaded Los Blancos to a stunning La Liga triumph ahead of arch-rivals Barcelona.
