French defender Ferland Mendy will reportedly miss Real Madrid's UEFA Champions League clash against Atalanta on Tuesday, December 10, due to a quadriceps injury. The 29-year-old was forced off in the second half during Los Blancos' 3-0 victory over Girona in LaLiga on Saturday, December 7.
The Frenchman suffered an injury while making a defensive move in the 80th minute. Due to the injury, Mendy collapsed on the pitch inside Real Madrid's penalty area. With less than 72 hours remaining in Los Blancos' Champions League clash against Atalanta, the 29-year-old's return to the team seems highly unlikely.
Mendy has played 16 matches for Carlo Ancelotti's side across competitions this season. He has helped the side keep three clean sheets in LaLiga. However, Mendy has joined Madrid's long injury list, with Fran Garcia expected to take his place in the backline.
Eder Militao and Dani Carvajal have suffered keen injuries, which have ruled them out for the entirety of the season. David Alaba's return is uncertain while Lucas Vazquez and Eduardo Camavinga are also on the sidelines due to injuries.
However, Los Blancos can get a major injury boost ahead of their trip to the Gewiss Stadium. As per Football Espana, Vinicius Jr., Jude Bellingham, and Rodrygo are expected to return ahead of Real Madrid's game against Atalanta.
Real Madrid keen to sign 26-year-old Manchester United star: Reports
According to TBR Football, Carlo Ancelotti's Real Madrid are interested in signing Manchester United's Lisandro Martinez in the upcoming transfer windows. Due to the injuries of Dani Carvajal, Eder Militao, and David Alaba, the LaLiga giants are keen to recruit new defenders.
Los Blancos have been linked with multiple top defenders across different leagues. However, they eye Dutch defender Lisandro Martinez as a long-term target. The 26-year-old joined Manchester United in July 2022 from Eredivisie giants Ajax for a reported transfer fee of £57 million.
Since then, he has made 78 appearances for the Red Devils across competitions, scoring and assisting one goal each. His contract with the Old Trafford outfit would expire in the summer of 2027 and the deal also includes a one-year extension clause.
Apart from Lisandro Martinez, the LaLiga champions are also interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur's Cristian Romero. However, Spurs are reportedly preparing a new contract for the Argentine defender.
