Real Madrid beat Deportivo Alaves 3-2 at the Santiago Bernabeu in La Liga on Tuesday, September 25. However, they now might be sweating on forward Kylian Mbappe's fitness.

Los Blancos hosted Alaves on Tuesday looking to maintain their 38-game unbeaten streak in the league. Lucas Vazquez opened the scoring in the first minute after some excellent work from Vinicius Jr. Kylian Mbappe then scored in the 40th minute after combining with Jude Bellingham. Rodrygo Goes added a third in the 48th minute with a brilliant strike.

Real Madrid were comfortable for large parts of the game but Alaves showed some late fight. Carlos Benavidez (85') and Kike Garcia (86') scored within two minutes to threaten a comeback. However, the Spanish giants held on to secure all three points.

Los Blancos might have suffered an injury scare though. Mbappe came off in the 80th minute to be replaced by Arda Guler. While coming off, the Frenchman seemed to hint some discomfort to manager Carlo Ancelotti. Journalist Guillermo Rai has now reported that the forward will undergo tests on Wednesday or Thursday for some discomfort in his left thigh.

Real Madrid will hope it isn't too serious as Mbappe has been in excellent form. He's scored seven goals and provided one assist in nine games across competitions since arriving on a free transfer in the summer.

Carlo Ancelotti assesses Kylian Mbappe's form after Real Madrid's win over Alaves

After a long-drawn transfer saga, Kylian Mbappe finally joined Real Madrid as a free agent after leaving Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the summer. He had an excellent start, scoring in a 2-0 win over Atalanta in the UEFA Super Cup. However, he then failed to register a goal contribution in the next three games.

Mbappe has now scored in each of the last five games, registering six goals and one assist. After the game against Alaves, Carlo Ancelotti was asked about the Frenchman's form and he answered (via Managing Madrid):

“He’s doing very well, we’re doing very well in attack. For an hour the team played very well, looking for opportunities in different ways, in transition, filtering passes... The team is improving, it’s good for us, the schedule is very demanding. Sunday’s game will also be very demanding.”

Real Madrid will next take on city rivals Atletico Madrid at Wanda Metropolitano on Sunday, September 29. This was the only fixture they lost in La Liga last season, which started their now 39-game unbeaten streak.
