Vinicius Jr will miss Real Madrid's upcoming league games against Las Palmas and Real Valladolid following his red card against Valencia, LaLiga has confirmed. The Brazilian was given marching orders in last week's league tie for clashing with goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski.
Vinicius hit the Macedonian in the neck after a confrontation, prompting VAR to intervene. Referee Soto Grado was advised to visit the pitchside monitor, and following the review, the 24-year-old was shown a straight red card.
The player was furious following the decision and wanted to confront the referee. He had to be restrained by teammate Antonio Rudiger.
Real Madrid were trailing 0-1 during the incident, but rallied to secure a 2-1 win, thanks to goals from Jude Bellingham and Luka Modric. Vinicius Jr has since apologized to Los Blancos fans and thanked his teammates for collecting all three points.
The Brazilian has now been slapped with a two-match ban for violent conduct and will miss the next two league games. However, the player will be allowed to appear for Real Madrid in the Supercopa de Espana.
Los Blancos will face Mallorca in the semifinal of the tournament on Thursday, January 9, at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium. Carlo Ancelotti's team will face either Barcelona or Athletic Bilbao should they manage to make it to the final.
