Real Madrid enjoyed a highly fruitful 2023-24 campaign under Carlo Ancelotti, losing just twice in the entire season. The Italian manager managed to get his hands on the La Liga trophy, the Champions League, and the Supercopa de Espana.
Meanwhile, Liverpool are keeping a close eye on two Los Blancos players. Elsewhere, AC Milan are willing to include a French full-back in their offer for Brahim Diaz.
On that note, let's look at the major Real Madrid transfer stories from June 28, 2024.
Liverpool eyeing Rodrygo Goes and Arda Guler, says journalist
Liverpool remain keen to sign Rodrygo and Arda Guler this summer, according to journalist Graeme Bailey. The Brazilian forward's place in Real Madrid's starting XI has come under threat following the arrival of Kylian Mbappe and Endrick.
Guler, meanwhile, has struggled for opportunities since joining Los Blancos from Fenerbahce last year. The Turkish youngster managed just 12 appearances across competitions in the 2023-24 campaign, scoring six goals.
Speaking to Rousing the Kop, Bailey said the Merseyside club have been in contact with the La Liga giants to assess the availability of the duo.
“I am told that Liverpool have been checking on the situations of Rodrygo and Arda Guler – both of whom they are long-term admirers of and watched them for most of their careers. With both players, it was just a case of Liverpool checking on with Madrid, as they do with many clubs about certain players, to assess the situation,” said Bailey.
However, Bailey added that neither player will likely end up at Anfield this summer.
“On Guler, Florentino Perez does not want him to go, but he may allow a loan. We can’t see Liverpool being in that market though, and am told maybe someone like a Real Sociedad for a season is more likely," said Bailey.
He continued:
“Rodrygo is a different situation. A huge talent who not just Liverpool are keen on, but as it stands the official line is he is not available and the player isn’t pushing to move…at the moment. Endrick and Mbappe are coming in, and with Vinicius Jnr already in place Rodrygo’s situation could change, and quickly. His representatives are keeping Liverpool and other suitors informed on him.”
Guler is highly rated at Real Madrid and the club believe he has a bright future at the Santiago Bernabeu.
AC Milan include Theo Hernandez in Brahim Diaz offer
AC Milan are willing to include Theo Hernandez in their offer for Brahim Diaz, according to Defensa Central. The Spanish midfielder spent three seasons on loan at the San Siro and remains highly regarded at the club.
Diaz enjoyed an impressive 2023-24 campaign with Real Madrid, registering 12 goals and nine assists from 44 games across competitions. The Rossoneri are delighted with his effort and are planning to take him back permanently this summer.
Diaz is not indispensable at the Santiago Bernabeu, with Los Blancos spoilt for choice in the middle of the park. Meanwhile, the La Liga giants are looking for a new left-back and could be enticed by the opportunity to sign Hernandez.
Real Madrid's attempts to sign Alphonso Davies this summer haven't been fruitful so far. The Canadian's contract with Bayern Munich is set to expire next summer and the Bavarians are working to tie him down to a new deal.
David's next move is shrouded with uncertainties and Los Blancos could be tempted to end their chase and rope in Hernandez instead. The 26-year-old appeared 46 times across competitions in the 2023-24 campaign, registering five goals and 11 assists, and could be an upgrade on Ferland Mendy.
Nacho Fernandez decided Real Madrid future in March
Nacho Fernandez made a decision to leave Santiago Bernabeu in March this year, according to Cadena SER. The Spanish defender left Real Madrid this month as a free agent and will move to Al Qadsiah to start a new chapter in his career.
Nacho has been in and out of the first team all his life, having spent his entire career at the Santiago Bernabeu. The La Liga champions have always counted on him and the veteran defender has never disappointed.
However, the 34-year-old was frustrated by Carlo Ancelotti's decision to start Aurelien Tchouameni ahead of him against Valencia in March. Even with David Alaba and Eder Militao injured, Nacho couldn't secure a place in the team.
The Spaniard realized his position in the pecking order under the Italian manager and ultimately decided that it was time to look for greener pastures. Even when Tchouameni got injured and Nacho played regularly, the veteran had already made his decision. He eventually informed Los Blancos president Florentino Perez about his decision during Easter.
Even though he was offered a new deal later on, the Spaniard turned down the chance to prolong his lengthy stay with Real Madrid.
