Real Madrid are looking ahead to their next game in La Liga against Alaves on Tuesday (September 24) at the Santiago Bernabeu. Carlo Ancelotti's team are unbeaten in all competitions this season so far.
Meanwhile, Los Blancos are keeping a close eye on Alphonso Davies' situation at Bayern Munich. Elsewhere, the Spanish champions are interested in an RB Leipzig defender.
On that note, let's look at the major Real Madrid transfer stories from September 23, 2024.
Real Madrid plan Alphonso Davies move, says Fabrizio Romano
Real Madrid are planning to move for Alphonso Davies in January if he continues to stall a new deal, according to acclaimed journalist Fabrizio Romano. The Canadian speedster is in the final year of his contract with Bayern Munich and their efforts to extend his stay haven't been fruitful so far.
Davies is one of the finest left-backs in the world and could be an upgrade on Ferland Mendy at the Santiago Bernabeu. The 23-year-old has appeared 200 times for the Bavarians to date, scoring 11 goals and setting up 32 more.
In his column for CaughtOffside, Romano noted that Los Blancos are in no hurry to sign the Canadian following Mendy's renewal.
“Real Madrid’s interest in Alphonso Davies remains strong. Davies is part of their list, but it will depend on contract talks between Bayern and Alphonso. If he doesn’t extend the contract by January, Real Madrid will try to advance in talks to reach an agreement and bring him to the club," Romano wrote.
He continued:
“They’re not in a rush now, also because Ferland Mendy just agreed on a new deal and so it’s something they’d only do at their conditions.”
An official confirmation on Ferland Mendy's new deal is still awaited.
Los Blancos eyeing Castello Lukeba
Real Madrid are interested in Castello Lukeba, according to journalist Jose Felix Diaz. The 21-year-old defender has earned rave reviews since arriving at RB Leipzig in 2023.
Lukeba has cemented his place in the Bundesliga club's starting XI. Los Blancos have been monitoring him for a while and are now convinced by his abilities.
Carlo Ancelotti missed out on Leny Yoro this summer, with the 18-year-old ending up at Manchester United. The Italian remains eager to inject a shot of youth in his backline and has set his sights on Lukeba.
The Frenchman is under contract at the Red Bull Arena until 2028. He is a key part of Marco Rose's side and Leipzig are unlikely to let him go without a fight.
Real Madrid face Arsenal competition for Franco Mastantuono
Real Madrid will face competition from Arsenal in the race to sign Franco Mastantuono, according to TBR Football. The Gunners have recently turned their attention to the Argentinean prodigy, who has admirers at multiple clubs in Europe.
The north London side have been on the rise under Mikel Arteta and have turned to the South American market at the moment. They have set their sights on the 17-year-old, who plays for River Plate.
However, prising him away won't be easy, as there are already multiple clubs hot on his heels. Manchester City, Barcelona, and Chelsea are all eyeing him with interest, but it is believed that Los Blancos are leading the race for his services at the moment.
The La Liga champions have already initiated contact to secure the services of Mastantuono. The player apparently has his heart set on a move to the Santiago Bernabeu.
