Real Madrid are working to continue their tremendous recent form under Carlo Ancelotti. The Italian manager has guided his team to the pinaccle of success since taking charge for his second tenure in 2021.
Meanwhile, Los Blancos have received a boost in their efforts to sign Alphonso Davies this summer. Elsewhere, Andriy Lunin is yet to make a decision regarding his future.
On that note, let's look at the major Real Madrid transfer stories from August 6, 2024.
Real Madrid receive Alphonso Davies boost
Bayern Munich haven't closed the door on Alphonso Davies' exit this summer, according to journalist Maximilian Koch. The Canadian speedster is in the final year of his contract with the Bavarians and hasn't agreed to a renewal yet.
Real Madrid are attentive to the situation as they search for a new left-back this summer. The La Liga champions are not totally convinced with Ferland Mendy, whose contract also expires in 2025.
While Carlo Ancelotti is happy with the Frenchman and wants him to continue, Los Blancos are looking for someone with more attacking impetus. Davies fits the bill and his contract situation also makes him a financially feasible target.
It was previously believed that the Bavarians are willing to risk losing him for free next year as negotiations threaten to run beyond the summer. However, it now appears that they could be willing to cash in on him this year.
Real Madrid are apparently preparing to sign the 23-year-old on a Bosman move next summer. However, they are likely to jump at the prospect of signing Davies for a reduced fee this year.
Andriy Lunin yet to decide future
Andriy Lunin is yet to make a decision on his future, according to AS. The Ukrainian's contract with Real Madrid expires in under a year and he is yet to sign a new deal.
Lunin was outstanding for Los Blancos last season, helping the club deal with Thibaut Courtois' injury. However, the 25-year-old lost his place in the team once the Belgian returned to full fitness in the final weeks.
The Ukrainian is frustrated by the situation and wants assurances of regular game time before he agrees to a renewal. However, the La Liga giants cannot provide him such promises, causing a breakdown in talks.
Real Madrid have already identified Kepa Arrizabalaga as Lunin's replacement. The Spaniard spent last season on loan at the Santiago Bernabeu from Chelsea.
Kepa is eager to return and has already turned down lucrative offers from the Middle East in hopes of joining Los Blancos. However, a move is only possible if Lunin leaves.
Los Blancos suffer Trent Alexander-Arnold setback
Liverpool manager Arne Slot has hinted that Trent Alexander-Arnold is firmly in his plans at Anfield. The English right-back has entered the final year of his contract and hasn't agreed to a new deal yet.
Recent reports have suggested that Real Madrid have their eyes on the 25-year-old. The La Liga champions are in the market for Dani Carvajal's long-term replacement.
Alexander-Arnold fits the bill and has been integral to the Merseyside club's success under Jurgen Klopp. It has also been reported that Los Blancos are planning a Bosman move for the Englishman in 2025.
However, speaking to The Athletic, Slot insisted that he is eager to start working with Alexander-Arnold.
“We didn’t speak about his commitment, we only spoke about the way I wanted him to play and how he could fit in that style. He was mainly focused on the Euros at that moment we spoke and I saw some clips from people recently showing me that he looks really fit and sharp. I can’t wait to see him train,” said Slot.
Real Madrid may have to turn to a plan B to address their right-back issue.
