The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) are considering filing a report on the unruly behavior of Barcelona president Joan Laporta following his side's win on Wednesday (January 8).
The Catalan giants went to court to get permission to register the duo of Dani Olmo and Pau Victor, and both players were granted temporary permission. This came just before La Blaugrana took the field in Saudi Arabia, where they overcame Athletic Club 2-0 in the Spanish Super Cup semi-final.
Barcelona filed for an urgent precautionary measure to enable them register both Olmo and striker Victor, and their request was granted in court by the Superior Council of Sports (CSD). They had previously seen requests turned down as they sought to find ways to register their players for the second half of the 2024-25 season.
A report from @ReshadFCB via @isaacfouto on X has revealed that the RFEF are looking to make a report in court on the behavior of Barcelona's president. Laporta could face a number of penalties, including a demotion from his present role, if found guilty.
Barcelona signed only two players, Olmo and Pau Victor, in the summer amid their financial difficulties. The former had to wait until the end of August before he made his debut for the side, as they had been unable to register him previously. The registration secured for both players, however, was for only half the season, leaving them unregistered for the second half of the campaign.
The governing body of Spanish professional football, RFEF, have been unhappy with how La Blaugrana president Laporta has handled himself in the aftermath of the ruling and match against Athletic Club. The president appeared to celebrate quite wildly, with reports pointing out that he hurled insults at LaLiga and RFEF officials present, as well.
Barcelona down Athletic Club despite off-field issues in Super Cup
Barcelona eased to a 2-0 win over Athletic Club in their Spanish Super Cup semi-final meeting to book their place in the final. The Catalan giants put their troubles off the pitch behind themselves to find a way past their Basque opposition.
Spanish midfielder Gavi scored his first goal since rupturing his ACL last year to open the scoring for his side after 17 minutes. Lamine Yamal marked his return from injury with a goal seven minutes into the second period to seal the win for La Blaugrana.
Inaki Williams found the net late in the day for Athletic Club, but his effort was ruled out for offside by the VAR. Hansi Flick's side held on to pick up the win and secure their place in the final of the competition.
