Premier League legend Rio Ferdinand has stated that Harry Maguire has stopped doubting himself at Manchester United. The former defender claims that the Englishman has been dominating duels and looks composed on the pitch.

Speaking on his podcast, Ferdinand stated that Maguire has been doing well in a back three against Liverpool and Arsenal. He believes that it is down to the Manchester United star getting his confidence back.

The former Red Devils legend said:

“Harry Maguire again, he was outstanding in the centre of that back three. He was dominating in individual duels, he looked composed. What he isn’t doing, it seems now, he’s not questioning himself.”

Ferdinand added that Ruben Amorim should also get some credit for Maguire's recent performances. He said:

“He’s got a manager who gives him a bit of belief, bit of confidence, and what that does for a player, any player, some good communication behind the scenes, does so much.”

Manchester United drew 2-2 at Liverpool earlier this month and then defeated Arsenal in the FA Cup 5-3 on penalties last weekend.

Harry Maguire on Manchester United and Ruben Amorim

Harry Maguire spoke about Manchester United and Ruben Amorim after Red Devils defeated Arsenal in the FA Cup. He admitted that the league position is an embarrassment for the club and they need to use these results to kick on.

He said via One Football:

“We put in a really good shift and limited them to not many chances after we went down to ten men. We also have to realise that we’re still where we are in the league table. We’ve got big games coming up. We can’t rest because the league table is to look at is embarrassing. We’ve got to kick on from this.”

Talking about the Portuguese tactician, he added:

“He said to me when it came across to him (he became aware) that he had an option [to extend] that it was a no-brainer for him. It has given me confidence and belief they want me at the club, they want me part of this project and I’m happy to be here. I want this club to be about fighting for the title. It’s not fighting where we are at the moment where we are in midtable. We’ve got a long way to go."

Manchester United will take on Southampton in the Premier League on Thursday, January 16, before taking on Brighton & Hove Albion.
