Former Wales international Robbie Savage has pointed his fingers at Chelsea star Robert Sanchez for failing to stop Liverpool's second goal in the recent 2-1 league defeat at Anfield.
Earlier this Sunday (October 20), the Blues crashed to their second league loss of the ongoing 2024-25 season. Mohamed Salah bagged the opener from the spot in the 29th minute before Nicolas Jackson levelled things just three minutes after the second half kick-off.
However, Liverpool regained the lead three minutes after Chelsea's equaliser. The Reds got their second goal after Curtis Jones converted Mohamed Salah's perfect cross in the 51st minute of the contest.
Speaking on BBC 606, Savage suggested that Sanchez should have done more to hinder Jones poking in the ball from close range. The ex-Leicester City star opined (h/t The Boot Room):
"I tell you what, the goalkeeper, for the second, can he be a little bit braver, do you think? Can he come out and spread himself, you know, a bit like [Peter] Schmeichel used to? Arms are by the side."
Doubting Sanchez's ability to start for the Blues, Savage added:
"You know, listen, I think Liverpool have got a top-class goalkeeper... Alisson [Becker] obviously didn't play. [Manchester] City have got a top-class goalkeeper, Arsenal have got a top-class goalkeeper, Aston Villa have. Have Chelsea? That's the question."
Sanchez, who left Brighton & Hove Albion for £25 million last summer, has proven to be an error-prone shot-stopper in the last year or so. He has registered just two clean sheets in eight appearances this term.
Pundit hails Chelsea duo after Liverpool loss
After Chelsea's recent defeat at Liverpool, ex-Tottenham Hotspur star Darren Bent heaped huge praise on Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia. He told talkSPORT (h/t X/@Blue_Footy):
"I thought Caicedo was good again [against Liverpool], flying around the park. I almost feel like when they've got Lavia and Caicedo, it's more protection. I quite like those two. If you're going to [use Cole] Palmer as the [number 10], I quite like [seeing both Lavia and Caicedo start]. The moment you lose one of those, it's a bit lopsided."
Caicedo, 22, provided an assist, completed 43 of 52 passes, created two chances, and won five of nine total duels against the Anfield outfit.
Lavia, 20, completed 21 of 22 passes and three of three dribbles, and won one of two tackles and six of eight total duels earlier on Sunday.
