MrBeast, the owner of the most subscribed YouTube channel, has picked Lionel Messi over Cristiano Ronaldo as the best player in the world. He joked that the debate for the greatest player of all time is over in a video that has recently surfaced online.

MrBeast is an American YouTuber, influencer, and a businessman, famed for his fast-paced videos that feature elaborate challenges and lucrative giveaways. In one such video, the internet personality is seen trying Lionel Messi's favourite drink, Mate.

Although he didn't seem too impressed with the drink the Argentinian regularly consumes, he spoke about the reason why he rates Messi over Ronaldo.

"Ronaldo recently said he wants to pass me in subscribers. Messi, you're officially the best football player on the planet," he quipped.

He called the debate "over" and said that he rates Messi higher than Ronaldo ever since the Portuguese spoke about surpassing his subscriber count.

MrBeast was referring to the Portuguese's comments in a recent press conference about beating the former's subscriber count on YouTube through his channel 'Ur Cristiano'.

"MrBeast on YouTube? In two years, let’s try to beat him," Ronaldo said.

The 39-year-old footballer launched his YouTube channel last month and already has over 57 million subscribers. MrBeast, however, is miles ahead with a subscriber base of over 313 million.

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo not named in the 2024 Ballon d'Or shortlist

The 2024 Ballon d'Or shortlist was announced on Tuesday, September 4. For most football fans, the shock came from not seeing the names of the two players who have won the award the most number of times.

Neither Lionel Messi nor Cristiano Ronaldo featured as the nominees for the coveted award, given to the best player of last season. This was the first time in over two decades that neither player has featured on the list.

It came as somewhat of a surprise given the Portuguese and Argentinian had impressive seasons for their respective clubs last time out. Furthermore, Messi won Copa America 2024 with Argentina.

On a positive note, the 2024 Ballon d'Or is guaranteed to be given to a first-time winner. The ceremony will be held on October 28 in Paris.
