Ruben Amorim has revealed that he has dropped Marcus Rashford from the clash against Tottenham Hotspur because he wanted to pick other Manchester United players. He said that it was also because of the way they trained and it has nothing to do with the interview.
The two sides faced off in the EFL Cup quarter-final at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday. Ahead of kick-off, Amorim said that he felt the players picked for the match were prepared for the match better than Rashford. He added that there were no other reasons for dropping the Englishman and said (via Metro):
"Selection. I choose the players that I feel that are ready to cope with the demands of playing a strong game. I tried to visualise all week and then choose my players. Just selection."
Amroim also spoke about the Manchester United star in his press conference earlier in the week and hinted that he was not happy with the interview. He said that the player should have approached the manager and said:
"If this was me, probably I will speak with the manager. But, guys, let’s focus on Tottenham. Tottenham is the most important thing. It's a hard situation to comment [on].
"If I give a lot of importance it will have big headlines in the papers and if I say it's not a problem then my standards are getting low. My focus is to not take the attention away from the game and the team and what we did in the last game."
Marcus Rashford was also dropped from the Manchester United squad for the derby against Manchester City on Sunday. He has not traveled with the squad once again, but Alejandro Garnacho is back on the bench.
Marcus Rashford hints at Manchester United exit
Marcus Rashford has hinted that he is ready for the next step in his career. He has revealed that there will be no negative comments from him about the club despite being dropped from the squad and said:
"For me, personally, I think I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps. When I leave it’s going to be “no hard feelings”. You’re not going to have any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That’s me as a person. If I know that a situation is already bad I’m not going to make it worse. I’ve seen how other players have left in the past and I don’t want to be that person. When I leave I’ll make a statement and it will be from me."
Rashford has been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League, while Barcelona and Real Madrid are also said to be keeping tabs on him.
