Manchester United boss Rubin Amorim refused to provide a definitive answer when asked whether Marcus Rashford would return against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Boxing Day. The Englishman hasn't been part of the United squad in their last three games.
Rashford has been at the center of controversy at Old Trafford amid uncertainty over his future. The England international recently admitted that he was prepared for something new. It came after he was left out of the squad to face Manchester City on December 15, opening the possibility of an exit soon.
He was excluded by Amorim presumably in retaliation for two consecutive games following the derby. However, the Portuguese insisted he's merely 'trying different things with different players'.
Manchester United have subsequently had consecutive defeats in Rashford's absence against Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup and Bournemouth in the Premier League. After his side's 3-0 defeat to the Cherries on Sunday, Amorim was asked whether Rashford will feature against Wolves on Thursday.
The Portuguese boss replied (as quoted by talkSPORT):
“It depends, we will see.”
Rashford endured a massive drop-off in form after his impressive 30-goal campaign in the 2022-23 season. Last term, the England international scored just eight goals in 43 games across all competitions.
This season, however, he's already scored seven goals and provided three assists in 24 appearances for Manchester United.
Manchester United dressing room's stance on Marcus Rashford's public admission about leaving club revealed - Reports
Marcus Rashford's United teammates have reportedly refused to support the 27-year-old winger after his public admission about his intention to leave the club.
After United's 2-1 win over Manchester City, Rashford said:
“For me, personally, I think I'm ready for a new challenge and the next steps. When I leave it's going to be ‘no hard feelings’. You’re not going to have any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That’s me as a person."
"If I know that a situation is already bad I'm not going to make it worse. I've seen how other players have left in the past and I don't want to be that person. When I leave I'll make a statement and it will be from me."
His comments have been criticized by many pundits and fans and now his teammates have weighed in on the matter. The club's dressing room have not taken it well either, according to The Sun.
The outlet claims that the squad feel like Rashford is forcing an exit after being excluded from the squad for just one game. They also reportedly think that he attempted to draw away attention from Manchester United's victory over the reigning English champions.
The forward is also understood to lack friends in the team given his quiet nature.
