Daily Mail journalist Chris Wheeler has shared why Manchester United forward Alejandro Garnacho was dropped for the Manchester derby last month. The Argentina international was a surprise exclusion from the Red Devils squad for the high-voltage match, which United won 2-1.

Ruben Amorim dropped a bombshell when his squad for the Manchester derby was announced, with Garnacho and Marcus Rashford absent. Wheeler has now revealed that the 20-year-old was excluded as he turned his back on the coach while receiving instructions in the prior game against Viktoria Plzen.

The youngster appeared to turn and walk away from the coach delivering tactical instructions to him, during the win against the Czech outfit in the UEFA Europa League.

The Portuguese tactician perceived the action as a sign of disrespect, prompting him to drop the forward. Garnacho's agent has, however, denied that it was aimed at disrespecting the coach, putting the whole scenario down to a big misunderstanding.

Amorim revealed shortly after that Alejandro Garnacho had been upset by his decision to leave him out against Manchester City, and he liked the player's response. The Argentine forward was restored to the squad immediately after and has featured in each of their last four matches.

However, Garnacho has yet to start a game for Manchester United since the incident, raising questions over his long-term future at the club. The youngster was the subject of a reported offer from Atletico Madrid last month and is set to be made available for a transfer in the January window.

Manchester United star set to miss Liverpool clash through illness

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford is set to miss his side's league visit to leaders Liverpool on Sunday, January 5, due to illness. The Englishman has not been training with the squad this week as he has been battling an illness.

Rashford was left out of the Manchester United matchday squad for four consecutive games against Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Bournemouth, and Wolverhampton Wanderers. He returned to the squad against Newcastle United but was an unused substitute.

Manchester United have yet to win or score a goal at Anfield since 2019, and they will have to try and achieve this without the 27-year-old, who has scored seven times this season.

The future of Marcus Rashford at Old Trafford remains up in the air, with the star forward open to finding a solution, either by staying or leaving the club.
