Manchester United interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy has expressed a desire to continue his stay at Old Trafford. The former player was temporarily handed the charge of the first team squad following Erik ten Hag's exit on Monday, October 28.

Nistelrooy marked his first game in charge by picking up a 5-2 win over Leicester City in the Round of 16 of the EFL Cup on Wednesday. It was also the first time that Manchester United had scored five goals against a Premier League opposition since 2021, when, interestingly, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was in charge.

However, with Ruben Amorim already identified as Ten Hag's successor at Old Trafford, Nistelrooy's future has been thrown up in the air. Recent reports have suggested that the Sporting manager is set to bring his own backroom staff, which could spell trouble for the Dutchman.

Speaking recently, as cited by acclaimed journalist Fabrizio Romano, Nistelrooy insisted that he is ready to help Manchester United in any capacity possible.

“I’m motivated to stay at Man United. I will go back to my assistant contract that I have here for this season and next. I came as an assistant to help the club forward and I'm still motivated to do so in any capacity,” said Nistelrooy.

Fabrizio Romano has reportedly that Amorim will only take charge at Old Trafford after November 10.

Ruud van Nistelrooy returned to Manchester United this summer to join Erik ten Hag's coaching staff. The legendary Dutch striker has scored 150 goals from 219 games for the Red Devils in his career and is a club legend.

Nistelrooy replaced Mitchel van der Gaag as Ten Hag's No. 2, with INEOS opting to keep trust in the former Ajax manager this summer. However, a poor start to the new campaign ultimately forced their hand.

The 2-1 defeat at the hands of West Ham United over the weekend proved to be the final nail in Erik ten Hag's coffin. Interestingly, Manchester United immediately appeared to rediscover their goalscoring form following his departure.

On Wednesday, Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro scored two goals each, while Alejandro Garnacho also got on the scoresheet to mark a refreshing start to Nistelrooy's tenure. The Dutchman looks set to remain in charge of the Red Devils for their three upcoming games before the international break. These are against Chelsea in the Premier League (November 3), PAOK in the Europa League (November 7), and Leicester City in the league (November 10).
