Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior could reportedly be offered a massive contract from Saudi Arabia. The Brazilian, who joined Los Blancos from Flamengo in 2018, has developed into a world-renowned talent under Carlo Ancelotti's second term as the manager.
Since the start of the 2021-22 season, he has scored 83 goals from 167 games in all competitions, including in both their Champions League finals during this run.
Now in his seventh year with the Spanish giants, Vinicius is once again the face of the club, leading their title ambitions with aplomb.
His contract with Madrid runs until 2027, and although talks of extension could begin soon, the forward's ambitions could be tested.
According to Cadena SER (via espana.net), Saudi Arabia are planning to launch a massive bid for the star that could be around €400 million. It is about 10 times as much as what Real Madrid paid for him.
Spanish journalist Tomas Roncero hinted that there's no certainty on what the club would do if the offer is truly made, although he insisted that Vinicius could resist the temptation. That's because Vinicius was only 16 when the Whites first contacted him and splurged big money on him even when he was relatively young at the time of his transfer. The player apparently values that.
So far, the Brazil international has been clear that he wishes to continue playing at the Santiago Bernabeu, but the Saudi rumors could persist for a while. It'd be interesting to see if an offer as big as €400 million, does indeed come to pass.
Swapping Real Madrid for Saudi Arabia would be a massive step back for Vinicius
Vinicius Junior is still only 24 and has the best years ahead of him. While he's already picked up every possible trophy with Real Madrid, a move elsewhere would make sense on paper.
But going to Saudi Arabia, however, would represent a step back in his career. The Saudi Pro League is home to many big stars today, including Cristiano Ronaldo, but most of them are past their prime.
It's a league to see out careers rather than build one, and Vinicius probably understands that. The allure and attraction of playing for a club of Real Madrid's stature is unmatched. The player would be better off continuing his development into a world-beater with the Spanish champions.
