Napoli are reportedly planning to offer Chelsea target Victor Osimhen to Manchester United in an attempt to sign Marcus Rashford in the January transfer window.
Rashford's future at Old Trafford remains uncertain after the England international hinted at a move away from the club in December. The star forward stated that he is prepared for a new challenge. The comments came after Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim's decision to drop Rashford from the squad to face Manchester City.
Rashford was subsequently excluded from the squad until the Red Devils' defeat to Newcastle United on New Year's Eve, although the 27-year-old remained on the bench for the entire game.
Despite being recalled to the squad, he continues to be linked with an exit. Recent reports suggest that Rashford has turned down offers from the Middle East and the Englishman has attracted interest from the MLS as well.
The latest suitors include Napoli, who are reportedly planning a January move. Napoli boss Antonio Conte is understood to be an admirer of the England international as well.
According to The Sun, the Serie A outfit are willing to offer Victor Osimhen in exchange for Rashford's services (via Metro). Osimhen has been the subject of long-term interest from Chelsea, while Arsenal and Manchester United have also kept tabs on him.
He was close to a move to Chelsea last summer but negotiations fell through after failing to match Napoli's valuation. Osimhen then joined Galatasaray on a season-long loan.
The Nigerian forward reportedly has a £62 million release clause in his Napoli contract, opening up the possibility of a swap deal for Rashford in January.
"It’s awful to watch them" - Ex-Chelsea star makes strong claim about Manchester United's performances this season
Former Chelsea star John Obi Mikel has slammed Manchester United for their performances this season. The Nigerian admitted that it's been difficult to watch them play this term.
United continue to struggle under their new manager as Ruben Amorim's side are sat 14th in the Premier League table. The Red Devils have lost their last three Premier League games and were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Tottenham Hotspur prior.
However, Obi Mikel believes Amorim cannot be blamed as he hit out at the players for being subpar by the club's standards. The former Chelsea midfielder said:
“Even if you’re not a United fan, it’s awful to watch them. They’re horrendous. Newcastle would’ve been 3-0 up in 20 minutes. It was a disaster. Listen, it’s not the manager’s fault at all. Ruben Amorim is a fantastic and brilliant young manager. I’ve said it when he came into the club - the players in United, I’m sorry, they are nowhere good enough to be playing for Man United.”
