Premier League legend Sergio Aguero has claimed that Mohamed Salah has signed a new two-year deal at Liverpool. The Egypt international's current contract with the Reds expires next summer and his future has been a hot topic of debate recently.
Speaking to Stake, Aguero claimed that Salah had accepted the latest contract extension offer from Liverpool and would stay at Anfield for two more years. He said (via FourFourTwo):
“So, I’ve read a little about this over the past few hours. As I understand, Salah’s renewed [his] contract with Liverpool for two more seasons. I think this should clear all doubts about his future. He remains a key player and a fresh contract is the best news Liverpool could receive.”
The claim comes just days after manager Arne Slot claimed he was not worried about Salah's extension talks. He said:
"It doesn't worry me, we just accept the situation as it is. They play at a very good club and do very well at the moment. I work with a lot of quality players over here and Mo is definitely one of them. He is one that should score goals. He is also part of the reason we keep as many clean sheets as we do. We're going to face Fulham now. We should have a much better performance against them to get a result. You can only take points from these games if you have quality yourself. Against Arsenal, they only conceded from a set-piece."
Liverpool also have to sort out the contract issues of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk. The duo will also become free agents at the end of the season if the Reds fail to tie them down to respective extensions.
Mohamed Salah was waiting for Liverpool contract offer
Mohamed Salah spoke to the media last month and claimed that Liverpool were yet to offer him a new deal. He added that he was 'more out than in' the club, triggering rumors of a possible exit. He said (via TheAnfieldTalk):
“Well, we are almost in December and I haven’t received any offers yet to stay in the club. I’m probably more out than in. You know I have been in the club for many years. There is no club like this but in the end it is not in my hands. As I said before, it is December and I haven’t received anything yet about my future. I love the fans. The fans love me. In the end it is not in my hands or the fans’ hands. Let’s wait and see.”
Paris Saint-Germain and Saudi Pro League clubs were said to be keeping tabs on the forward.
