Fans were critical of attacker Gabriel Jesus' performance in Arsenal's 1-0 home win over Shakhtar Donetsk in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday (October 22).

The Gunners dominated early proceedings, with Riccardo Calafiori spurning an opportunity to open the scoring before Jesus saw his effort saved by Shakhtar custodian Dmytro Riznyk.

However, Mikel Arteta's side went in front on the cusp of the half-hour mark when Gabriel Martinelli's ricocheted shot off the post went in off Riznyk. That turned out to be the only goal of the game, with Leandro Trossard squandering a late penalty.

Goalkeeper David Raya came to the party, producing a late save to keep his citadel intact as the Gunners returned to winning ways after their defeat to Bournemouth in the Premier League at the weekend. However, fans had a go at Jesus for his performance in front of goal, with one tweeting:

"Gabriel Jesus should be sold."

Another chimed in:

"It's time to say Goodbye to Gabriel Jesus"

There were similar reactions from other fans on X, with one tweeting:

"Gabriel Jesus should be ashamed of himself. Don't really know who he thinks he is."
"Hope Gabriel Jesus started his Arabic lessons already?," another commented.

One fan wrote:

"Not sure there's any point to Gabriel Jesus these days."

Another posted:

"I give Gabriel Jesus till January. JANUARYYYY"

Following his goalless outing at the Emirates, Jesus is without a goal contribution in 10 games across competitions this season.

Arsenal attacker Gabriel Martinelli has said that the team achieved their objective on the night - to beat Shakhtar - even though he would have liked them to score more.

The Brazilian also had words of praise for goalkeeper David Raya for his late save to preserve the win and offered support to Trossard following his penalty miss, telling TNT Sports (via BBC):

"Most important thing is to win. We knew how tough they are and we came here to win the game and we did it. We wanted to score more but we won the game and that's the most important thing."
"He (Trossard) could've scored but we are behind him, supporting him. We know his quality and we go again. I'm sure he's going to play well in the next game."

About Raya, he added:

"We are lucky to have him here. Really happy for him to get that save."

Arsenal next take on Premier League leaders Liverpool at home on Sunday (October 27).
