Prominent pundit and Manchester United legend Gary Neville has praised Arsenal attackers Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli for their displays in this season's Premier League.
Saka and Martinelli played crucial roles as the Gunners romped to a sizeable lead over Manchester City in the league standings midway through the season. However, City found their groove post the 2022 FIFA World Cup and have secured the title with two games to play.
Regardless, the Arsenal duo deserve credit for their performances this season. Saka is yet to miss a Premier League game for the team this term and has scored 13 goals and laid out 11 assists in 37 appearances in the competition. Martinelli, meanwhile, has netted 15 times in 36 league games this season.
Picking both players while choosing his Premier League Team of the Season for Sky Sports, Neville wrote:
"I think this season, Saka and Martinelli have absolutely lit up this league, I think they have been spectacular, I think they have been electric. Some of the best play I have seen all season has been from them two."
Neither player found spots in Neville's fellow Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher's Premier League Team of the Season. However, Carragher named Saka the best young player of the ongoing English top-flight campaign, saying:
"I love him. I think he has been fantastic. [Martin] Odegaard has been Arsenal's best player, I just did not pick Odegaard because he is too old - 24 seems too old to be the young player."
Here are the two former footballers' Premier League Teams of the Season in their entirety.
Gary Neville's 2022-23 PL TOTS: Nick Pope, Kieran Trippier, William Saliba, Ruben Dias, Pervis Estupinan, Martin Odegaard, Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne, Bukayo Saka, Erling Haaland, Gabriel Martinelli.
Jamie Carragher's 2022-23 PL TOTS: Alisson Becker, Kieran Trippier, Ruben Dias, Sven Botman, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Martin Odegaard, Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne, Mohamed Salah, Harry Kane, Erling Haaland.
Arsenal have suffered in recent weeks despite Gabriel Martinelli's best efforts due to Bukayo Saka's struggles
Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli have been instrumental for Arsenal for much of the ongoing Premier League season. However, Saka has struggled in recent weeks, with the Gunners also suffering a drop in form, ultimately resulting in them ceding the title to Manchester City.
The Englishman has scored just once in nine league matches since the start of April. He has recorded just five goals and four assists in the second half of the season after managing eight and six, respectively, in the first 19 matches.
Martinelli, meanwhile, scored just twice in seven Premier League matches before suffering an injury in Arsenal's 3-0 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion this month. The Brazilian, however, has been his side's most consistent attacker in the second half of the league campaign, recording eight goals and three assists in 17 games.
